Hey people who are old enough to remember these ads in the back of comic books,

did you ever send away for X-Ray Glasses? The ones where the ad had the picture of the guy looking through the girl's clothing?

What if anything did they actually do??

I remember those ads. As well as the ads recruiting kids to sell a newspaper called Grit (which I do not recall ever being referred to by anyone other than in those comic book ads!)

I never bought any of that stuff. But one time , a friend offered me a stick of chewing gum. It turned out to be a gag item he ordered from that comic book page. It was supposedly super hot. But I just kept chewing it, not realizing this, and enjoying the fact that finally I had some gum that didn't lose its flavor right away!

@DrWatson there was also garlic gum and that stuff Peewee Herman gave to Francis(?) on Peewee's Big Adventure. It has some kind of black dye in it that makes it look like youre chewing ink.
@Jayciedubb Yes ! That’s what I remember that gum was about, as a practical joke.

@bijouxbroussard yes. My sister sent away for 2 packs of it. ..it came like Wrigley's doublemint in a feneric wrapper and you were supposed to rewrap it in whatever wrapper you were trying to pass it off as. ..but it was rock hard. Lol and the black ink stuff had too much powder on it trying to hide the dark spot on the gum. Idk if she ever got anyone to fall for it.

My thing was those little cigarette loads that looked like chunks of toothpicks that would explode when burned. They came in a little, round, red and white tin. But i never had to send away for them. ..they could be found at basically any corner store. ..especially the ones that sold those hot cinnamon toothpicks..
