Can you recall your first heartbreak? Was there a soundtrack?

Mine was my high school sweetheart. Music was his love language. His parting gift to me was a CD he made with the songs written out carefully. I wish I still had it. This song still makes me think of that time

My first bf and I listened to Fiona Apple's Criminal album so many times together I couldn't really enjoy her music for a few years.

I still can't listen to Alkaline Trio and it's been several years since I saw that heartbreaker.
@Starcrossed Damn them for ruining it for you
She was a big Bret Michaels fan

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout She broke your heart?
@Notladylike she did.. the bich 😏

I can't really recall , but I was very emotionally attached to the album ' Bring the Family" by John Hiatt , which he composed after a divorce and bout with alcolism ....

I genuinely could sense his heartbreak in the album , it was incredibly visceral for me at the time ...

Anyhow here is a track i love ...

There's lots of songs that hit me really hard during my first heartbreak. Especially the ones we called "ours". They all still remind me of that time it just doesn't hurt like it used to. It feels nostalgic though.

This one helped me through it the most. I used to play it on repeat during my drive home from work every day. I'd just smoke a joint & cry my eyes out while I sang every word. I didn't even care if anyone saw me.
One time the song played on it's own when I was with a friend & I left it on. He asked me "wtf are you listening to?" & I told him, "man I'd kill you to this song then sit right back down & keep singing. You don't understand".
He understood.
@ChiefWalksWith40oz That’s such a romantic song I can see how it captured you

Reminds me a bit of this one

@Notladylike what a good song. I just finished it rn. Thanks 😌
I didn't experience true heartbreak until much later in life. It hurt. A lot. Once in a while now it's still like a fading bruise.

Our soundtrack was Leonard Cohen, and I couldn't listen to him for almost a decade.
@Mamapolo2016 Leonard Cohen is quintessential break up music
@Notladylike Too quintessential for me at that time. It was all for the best. I would never have been comfortable in his world.

And both he and my late excellent husband died of brain cancer within two years of each other.
Thinking back…most of the girls I dated liked music I didn’t. Which I find weird.
There was one friend in Uni who introduced me to U2, Jesus and Mary Chain and the Cure. She was cool, but it was platonic
@Ghostinthemachine Sounds like the one that got away. “Lullaby” by the cure is one of my favs
@Notladylike Nah.

I like this one

My first heartbreak occurred back in the summer of 1998, when a classmate of mine moved away. But I'm well over that, now.
@Sidewinder Is there a song that reminds of you that time?
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Notladylike Goodbye, by The Spice Girls, which I saw the music video to, later that same year.
In the End- Linkin Park.

Second -It's Been Awhile by Staind.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Two classic break up songs! All the feels
You outta Know- Alanis Morissette seems a good choice too.
Not fond of I Do It for You - by Bryan Adams
@SethGreene531 Aww sounds like a painful memory.
@Notladylike it was a vague emotion, wistful; which didn't pierce like most, thankfully.
It was a good teacher though.
Human1000 · M
My one and only…it was 1991. No particular soundtrack, though.
@Human1000 How did you process it without music?
I listened through that cd on repeat for hours
Human1000 · M
@Notladylike Booze and tears, lol. What else was on the CD?
@Human1000 I can’t remember most of it. I should ask him to see if he does.

This wasn’t my first breakup, but it was significant.

@bijouxbroussard I can’t view that one from here for some reason. Which song was it?
@Notladylike Can you see this ?

@bijouxbroussard Oh yes! Love journey too
Not my first, but my ex because it hit the hardest.
@V00doo That song gives all the feels
