Has anyone here ridden on the London Eye ? What was it like ?

If I ever get back to London, I think it’s definitely something I might do…
I have. It was lovely. just a big, slow moving ferris wheel you can stand in with a great view. I think we did the deluxe package with champagne.

@nonsensiclesnail Oh, that sounds really cool ! ☺️
@bijouxbroussard It was a really nice time. I would do it again.

It was good. Pick the right day though. Not too interesting when it is grey and rainy. Also close by (in County Hall, which you can see to the rear), is the London Aquarium and the London Dungeon Experience with waxworks from Mme Tussauds!

It's a good one to visit but also consider the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street. Also known as the 'Walkie Talkie' building and famous for melting a car in the street! I would say the views here are better and you can visit for free if you book in advance. As part of it's planning consent there is a covenant allowing free visits. https://tickets.skygarden.london/WebStore/shop/viewitems.aspx?cg=SkyGarden&c=Tickets.
You get a generous slot to take in the views, admire the plants and have bite to eat or drink. From memory the lifts are extremely fast too!
@Ironicman Oh, wow, that looks amazing !

@bijouxbroussard guaranteed to take your breath away.

I’ve never been, but I would be seriously tempted! Usually I’m the stodgy history nerd, but I love how it looks in pictures of London. 😍

Probably better than the Brighton i360 Tower that is on the seafront and in strong winds doesn't go
QuietEd2019 · 31-35, M
I have been on it it’s great for getting a panoramic view of the city

I hated it. Im not good with heights. I sat right in the middle of the capsule and glanced out now and again. Coz the windows are to the floor, i just didnt feel safe, it felt like i could fall.... it was hell for me. I couldnt do it again.
The rest of the family loved it.
@RubySoo I’m not great with heights, either, so that definitely gives me pause.

@bijouxbroussard i hoped id be ok.... but i really wasnt. It was a bad week for me heights wise. I had a panic attack trying to get to my seat at a westend theatre as we were up in the gods and there was no handrail. Probably the worse and most embarrassing one ive ever had. I had another the next day walking up to Wembley stadium. A wide road....but i suddenly realised i was above the rooves of nearby houses and my legs turned to mush.
Horrid. Acrophobia.

I rode on the one in Singapore. It slowly goes by the boarding ramp and ascends. Get to see a lot of the area. Air is kept fresh and cool.even though you're in a bubble hanging in the sun in the tropics. Some german folks asked me to take their picture.

it was nice - great views
meggie · F
Some have done it more than once and said it's amazing on a clear day. You can pay extra too for a glass of champagne.

I've not done it yet as I'm scared of heights.
@meggie That’s something I’d have to get past to try it.

People stand up and do seem to enjoy themselves in it. It keeps stopping to empty and refill a capsule, so you get lots of viewing time.maybe go at dusk/night

Been on it a couple of times and both times was really lucky with the weather. Views amazing. Definitely worth it but perhaps not on a cloudy, wet day.
I have - many, many years ago. It does give amazing views of London. It moves almost imperceptibly - certainly not a fairground ride!
walabby · 61-69, M
I and family did 17 years ago. It was pretty cool. Great views. After that we did Shakespeare's Globe theater..
i have not...but been on the prater in vienna 🙂... over 40 years ago though

@beermeplease I went in that too, a long time ago!
@SW-User my mom was born there 🙂
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Done it a few times. Brilliant. Fabulous views.

We did one at night which is super too.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Its the biggest and slowest fairground ride ever but the view is spectacular.
I haven’t been to London making it a bit difficult
I have. It´s pretty cool.
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
Why go there, Chicago has one to

@HumanEarth California has several. But it’s about visiting London again.
Yes
But the Shard or Sky Gardens are nicer
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@V00doo Shard is fabulous views. Not done Sky garden yet
Elanor · F

I hate to admit I was too wasted to remember. All I remember is that it rained alot
@empanadas Rain was my experience of London, too. And overcast. I remember really being reminded of home.
