I laugh about it now, but I think the scariest moment I ever lived through was in Florida

The house I lived in was not very big so sometimes those huge flying cockroaches would find their way into the house.

One lovely morning I went to use the bathroom and as I started to pee, I turn toward the sink and there sits a huge visitor staring right at me.

I started screaming at the top of my lungs, my body wouldn’t cooperate with me to stop my business, so I was trapped, crying and screaming on the toilet.

It even started to lift its butt in preparation to jump, the door was closed so it also had nowhere to go. Luckily it stayed in its spot so I could finally run, screaming out of there. 😭

It was like straight out of a personal horror movie and not an experience I ever want to have again. Nothing scares me more than those cockroaches, as Florida so kindly taught me. I never sat down again before checking the entire bathroom first.

There are roaches all over the world, but the pest ones only thrive in dirty or hot/humid environments. I, as a southerner, still get disgusted by them, but accept I live in an area where you can never 100% get rid of them. I remember one year it was above 70 on thanksgiving and we had it outside. Night rolls around, still warm, roaches come out and just crawling everywhere. Not like a horror movie, just sort of there. No other year was that bad though

Once the weather starts warming up I'll have to stomp out the occasional one in the house...they are mutants for sure. I'll be all cozy on my couch watching TV and then see something black out of the corner of my eye crawling up the wall. Then you try to stalk them for the kill and those bastards start to flutter those wings and you're like oh hell fucking no.
If I may, is this your way of telling me you are in Florida? @SpectralMourning

@soulrespite I'm not all that close to Florida....but they show up here too. I've always called them "waterbugs"...I've looked them up before and most commonly called American Cockroaches.

I had a friend from Hawaii tell me he woke up with a cockroach as big as his thumb sitting on the tip of his nose.

The worst thing that freaked me out was when we were camping out in the desert with some of my parents friends and one of the kids turned over a huge rock near our camper and big scorpion was underneath it.
My poor mom had nightmares about it that night.
Yeah I would cry scream throw up too
It was slow motion horror. My bladder just decided to malfunction, slow down, but not stop.

I was screaming so much, I think I scared it too so he just froze there with me. @PepsiColaP
@soulrespite this reminds me of those nightmares where you really need to run but can't
I will check the bathroom for you 🥺

Palmetto bug is what they are called. I've encountered three living ones and countless dead ones in my twenty two years of Florida. Once was in my car, and definitely had no where to get away even though i know they aren't dangerous.
Omg, I always had that fear. To be with one in a car and be unable to get out. I would probably crash the car on accident. @ViciDraco
