2/2 turning the tables…. Putting white men on the other end of stop and frisk… or detain and identify…

Imagine you’re a white man.
Imagine you’re walking past a school, church or going to a festival or fair….

Imagine a group of armed men approach you demanding to know who you are.

You look confused. “Why is that important? why am I being stopped?”

They get aggressive, draw their guns on you and start shouting different commands because they not properly trained and everyone wants to take the lead.

You hear over the radio “white male reported near school/church/festival grounds, investigate for possible mass casualty event or ped*filia”

You hear an officer respond “we’ve made contact, detaining him and bringing him in for investigation”

Now you have to prove to them you are not 1 planning a mass casualty event and 2 that you’re not a ped*file attempting to take and hurt any kids….

Imagine that just because you are a white male you are accused of being a mass shooter or ped*file because 1 you’re white and 2 near school/church or festival grounds….

Is this what needs to happen in order for you to realize that detaining people because they’re brown until they prove their legal status in this country is wrong?

Take the criminals, jails are filled with them, no one wants to keep them around. Undocumented people in red states are being picked up from jails for actual crimes other than a civil infraction of being undocumented. Jails in IL also have undocumented people, why are ice terrorizing the streets and communities of Chicago rather than taking the actual criminals?

So, what needs to happen? Should we start reporting white males to the police because they are near schools churches and or festivals? Should white males be reported as suspicious of ped*filia or planning mass casualty events without any other qualifiers other than the color of their skin and location?
I don’t think that would be right…

The thing is, they won't. They will never think about that because they are completely certain this will never happen to them.

They don't seem to realize that when you take away the rights of even one person, everyone's rights are now null and void. This is why the constitution said, "every person" and not "every citizen".

And maybe it will never happen to them. Their support may make them immune, so they will never have a wake up moment to realize what they have allowed. And they won't care because it will never happen to them.

Appealing to people who have no ability to see life outside their own experiences and refuse to accknowledge that other people live very different lives is useless. They have lost all the human abilities to relate to people who are not them and they have no interest in getting it back.

They have no interest in personal growth to make the world better. They believe they made the world better by voting for a fascist who says the fascist things they want.

Been there, done that: teenager with collar-length hair and a mustache in rural Maryland, late 1960s, walking down the road, stopped by cops for looking too "hippie" or "radical". Also almost got attacked by an Army Captain at an officers' club for the same reason. My football coach was the bartender, I was there to see him, and he stopped the guy wanting to attack me.

Some (so many!) people can't understand basic things until that thing is happening to them. It's really very frustrating.

@Fallflower This. It is infuriating.

In Australia we don't walk with constant fear of God or guns
