Did you know that Chicago has a "basement"?

These look like places where The Joker would hang out...lol.

The Dark Knight was filmed in this location. That's why it looks like that.

I've spent a lot of time skulking around down there.

@BlueMetalChick chicago is gotham....

@Elena05 Chicago influenced the fictional city of Gotham more heavily than any other, kinda like Jump City is clearly an analog of Tokyo or Metropolis is supposed to be Washington, D.C.

And once the Dark Knight and the Suicide Squad movies were filmed in Chicago, it cemented that imagery.

@BlueMetalChick i always thoguht gotham was based on new york. but i dont know enough about either of those towns to really tell the difference anyway

@Elena05 There is a little bit of NYC influence in Gotham, for certain. Especially in the latest Joker movie where everybody had New York accents lol. But it was originally influenced by Chicago based upon a description written by the creator of Batman when he first came here. Driving into Chicago, he was stunned at how beautiful and huge the city looked, but then contrasted that experience with how dirty and chaotic it is once you actually get inside the city proper.

@Elena05 That's what I thought too. I think that Gotham City represents New York City a bit more in Batman: The Animated Series.

@SubstantialKick Yeah that's probably the case, the comics usually differ from the cartoons a little bit.
