Too much ego in California

@Ferric67 OK. Thanks for that. You've visited. And San Diego would definitely not be the worst place to live. Considered to be the home of the best weather in the country.

But just as reminder, CA is the second largest state as far as land in the Lower 48 and easily has the largest population. And economy. You might have visited some places that are a little more image conscious. But those areas are tiny in comparison to how the rest of the state lives.

Trust me when I tell you that the VAST majority of CA has NO connection to those kinds of lifestyles. We're the biggest ag producer in the country with massive forests and deserts. Huge military installations. The millions who live in those areas have nothing to do with how CA is presented to people and perceived.

What we all are pretty solid on is living with immigrants, letting gay people do their thing and protecting/enjoying public land. But there's parts of the state that might as well be Oklahoma. Complete with specific accents.

Not slamming you but it does get a little hard to take when my state is misrepresented by those in other parts of the country. There's a reason for it, which is to create an enemy, but it's totally misguided.

(Consider S.D. You might really like it. Good vibe).

@Ynotisay sounds like he did consider SD so why the footnote but okay.

It's not that every single person in California is material and superficial. I am from a suburban area of the bay area and I can tell you that it's a good majority. It's not to say, people who are highly material, only about material things. That's surely not all they care about. But it's a huge part of life here. In the cities, in the suburbs, and the hidden gem country areas being taken over by materialism, tourism, anything that makes money.

It is everywhere. It's the lifestyle. It's the norm.

I've also lived in the Midwest, north pnw, and Canada as well as traveled the states much so I have plenty to compare it to.

@Notsimilarreally I'm pretty sure that note wasn't intended for you. But thanks for the feedback.
But OK. I know the general area you live in. I grew up there. Couldn't pay me enough to live there again but that's just me. It works for some.
What you're describing are cities and suburbs across the nation. It's not unique to California. We live in a materialistic society in this country. You see it everywhere. Particularly in places like suburbs. Monkey see-monkey do. FAR more conscious about that stuff than in any big city I've lived in. For sure.
I'm in California. In the mountains. NO ONE cares about any of that here. It's non-existent. It's looked down upon. Just like in most of the far north and Central CA. It's a big state.
But as far as the "hidden gem" thing? Yeah. There's some truth to that. I have to deal with it. And my opinion is the same as most who also have do. Stay the hell out. We want nothing to do with that stuff. Do it our way or leave.
So if you're having an issue with where you live and the sociopaths who live there, you do have options. You just have to give up some stuff up. Maybe you could or maybe you couldn't. That's an individual call.
