I have an old friend who dropped everything in Cali to move there. She moved there with her parents after she graduated from college. Her mom owned a house here and sold it to move there. They bought property there.
@NativePortlander1970 I don't know why they moved there. When I asked she said it was work. She must have found a good job there. And the cost of living may be lower.
@Spoiledbrat I first found out how bad it got about ten years after blood kin betrayal forced me out, a topic on a social media site that covered global issues had massive traffic about how much Portland was hated by Cali and east coast transplants, it blew.my mind. They had sub topics included saying hownus Natives were fake and made them feel unwelcome, complete lies to their cores. That social media site from the mid to late 00's no longer exists.
Interesting, but I'm not sure exactly what this video "proves". It's not clear what the source for data is, or how much weight is given to each factor.
There are at least 20 different reports online that rate US cities & states from "best to worst" or for "livability" or how "family friendly", or whatever. Depending on the methodology they all deliver different results.

As far as the political stuff, I'll never be a fan of extremists on either side. In my experience what partisan politics contributes to real quality of life for anybody is close to zero.
