The problem is that too much voter apathy causes such mayors to get into office. Apparently it's a crime not to vote in Australia, they made it a national holiday so that no one has the excuse that work kept them from it, Iceland as well.

@NativePortlander1970 It's a holiday in the U.S., but some people just simply take the day off and don't even bother to go and vote.

@NativePortlander1970 Interesting. Here in Illinois the schools are all closed including colleges, and also government agencies like the DMV.
@SubstantialKick That percentage is still pathetic.
