The term gender was appropriated in the19th century to appease those sensibilities.

@SW-User I don't operate under the delusion that I am here to support mental illness. I had a smile a few weeks back. A young woman was so glad that she was unable to attend public school because she knows that had she done so she would have been talked into being trans. She is a woman and proudly so.
