He was talking about the wrath of the end times.. His wrath will not be upon His people.. They will be protected from His wrath during those times... This does not mean we shall be protected from the persecution of the anti-christs..
When we read the description of all the end times troubles we then read the verse::
(Luke 21:28) "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."
So Christians will be seeing all the end times happenings that are included in the chapter Luke 21.. You can read verses 1 to 28 yourself to confirm what we shall be witnessing..
I also point you to the prophecy in the OT about the end times wrath of God upon the anti-christs::
(Psalms 91:2-12) "I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. {3} Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. {4} He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. {5} Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; {6} Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. {7} A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. {8} Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. {9} Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; {10} There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. {11} For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. {12} They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."
Just as The LORD preserved Noah through the great flood so too will He preserve His End time Saints through His wrath..

@Thandeka I have prayed to God to take me on more then a few occasions.. When you know you have eternity with a perfect Loving Father,, in a perfect existence,, desiring to get an early mark from this world is natural and you don't need to be suffering from end times tribulation.. This world is bad enough as it is now.. And in comparison to Gods eternal kingdom this world is as a toxic nuclear waste dump.. Our LORD Jesus said..
(John 12:25) "He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal."

Yeah lol they lied that’s why …
Read 2 Esdras ((Ezra))13 in the Apocrypha it explains what left behind means…
2 Esdras 13:22 Wheras thou hast spoken of them that are left behinde, this is the interpretation.
2 Esdras 13:23 He that shall endure the perill in that time, hath kept himselfe: they that be fallen into danger, are such as haue workes, and faith towards the Almightie.
2 Esdras 13:24 Know this therefore, that they which be left behinde, are more blessed then they that be dead.

"Those who accept a Pre-Tribulation Rapture theory believe that Christians who have trusted Christ as Lord and Savior will escape the Tribulation."

Jesus himself said that he would return when some of those that he was speaking to would still be alive.
Still. Waiting.

@Thandeka Well there's..
“When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes” (Matt. 10:23).
...and...
In Mark 9:1 and its parallels (Matt. 16:28; Luke 9:27), Jesus promises that “there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
