I’m just curious because a friend of mine mentioned going to one with friends from her church.

Could be a lot of different curriculums depending on the denomination of the Church.
I took one for the United Methodist church and it was an excellent time to get to know other members. The content was Bible focused with a bit of church history to become familiar with the church.

It’s a course aimed at twenty and thirty year olds. Helping people explore and consolidate their Christian faith.
The Alpha course is more basic. Reaching out to non Christians. Though lots of Christians have found renewal here.

How do you serve Christ if he is truly your Lord and not just your Savior? It also offers help in how to improve your faith.

Probably something that is organised by a particular denomination for it's adhearants.. Probably giving them teachniques in how to best share the Gospel with others..
