Is there any Christian brethren or sistren that are versed in the bible or our religion?

I wish to learn more about the big man in the sky, but I’ve come to learn it’s not as simple as picking up a bible.

There’s so many bibles I don’t know which one I should be reading, I just know the big guy in the sky ALWAYS had my back!

Im a spiritual person but struggle being what I’m told is a good Christian, I haven’t had a pleasant life so I’m not your average “turn the cheek” type of Christian and I’m working on not cussing as much.

I remember in Sunday school they told me the lord warns of false prophets and idols that try to separate us from god. I don’t wanna be without god ever! 🙏

For those of you not Christian I wish you blessings of your designated deities or lack their of. 🤝

Let's talk about bibles for a minute here, ok? There are at least two and a half to three dozen versions of the bible that are sold today. Now each one of these bibles has a carrying number of editors, they are written from various points of view, and they all have a grade level of reading. Now the 1611 KJV is the gold standard, it is the closest translation from the Hebrew and Greek. The KJV also reads at a college level. There are a couple versions that should be avoided like the plague, but I'll not get into that here. But overall, you might want to consider a side by side comparison of different translations.

I have found that a good guide to start with to living a Christian life are the Beatitudes and the book of James. The Beatitudes is pretty self explanatory, whereas the book of James might need a little explaining. There is a little book called "The 24/7 Christian." What it is is a book that breaks down every portion of the book of James and how to put it into practice in everyday life. The book of James essentially is a guidebook for how christians should conduct themselves.

Hope this helps.

@powernap Thanks taking the time to read and help with this dilemma.

For bibles the king James is where I should begin do you think? So the (24/7) Christian’s is a more laymen’s guide books of conduct and the king James message?

So are these bibles of different perspective points/continuations of the bible or a part of the bible itself?

May I ask what you mean by levels of readings, like the ability to distinguish metaphor's and philosophy from truth or its written in archaic or another language?

I’ve been baptized quiet a few times, my father would go to different church’s because he don’t really get it either.

I’d also love to know about angels, I’ve seen that they aren’t all what we imagined and look quite horrifying.

Is there anything about angels in the (24/7) Christians or King James or is that a different book? My biggest Angel question would obviously be “do I have a guardian angel”?

I know I’m not the sharpest butter knife in the drawer but nobody ever explained this to me.

I find it’s also easier to learn when I have somebody with a like mind to speak with on the subject!
