The 'Rapture'. Why Do Some Christians Believe In It?

Or as I like to jokingly call it, 'The Rap Show'. I once saw a Nicholas Cage film about it (see image), and it was comical even though it wasn't a comedy. I just can't take this idea at all seriously.

I don't believe in any of it people really think there a guy in the clouds seeing everything we do and creating everything? If so he sucks at his job
FormerAtheist · 26-30
@Mandimcgee But that's just it; no one believes that anyway. The only people who think we do are those misinformed atheists, those folk who like to always oversimplify everything (including the views of the people who don't agree with them).

@FormerAtheist I used to believe it for the short period of time that I was a Christian. And I've met several people who believe it.

@LordShadowfire Yes, no doubt some people believe that, because they take every word in the Bible literally, even though it's quite obvious it shouldn't all be taken that way (ex. the parables). However, some of us have actually evolved from the time of the early church, when imagining something so simple was still possible because we just didn't know any better.

@FormerAtheist I've met enough Biblical literalists (particularly in this country) to understand why atheists would get that impression.

@LordShadowfire Let me guess; they also believe the King James Version is the only legitimate version, and that all the others are somehow tainted, or too "politically correct".
I don't know which country you're referring to when you say "this country", but it clearly isn't my country. If I had to guess, I'd say that it was the U.S. I've heard a lot about the fundamentalists who seem to give Christianity a bad reputation over there.

@FormerAtheist You guessed correctly on all counts.
