Neither of you did anything work, necessarily. You can't go around in this world expecting everyone to meet your specifications. The fact that you found someone who was honest about his feelings is positive. Imagine, if by trying to impress you or win you over he pretended he understood your practise only to find out late that was going to be point of contention.

Perhaps you should specify, upfront, what you are looking for and have the courage to dismiss anyone for dating purposes, who don't measure up to your specifications.
