Bible Study: The Beast is Not AI

The other day, a few people said Revelation 13 is about AI and the Internet. I get why people are concerned. The world is changing fast with cashless systems, computers, and AI. But we need to be careful not to label things the Bible never labels.

Many Bible teachers believe the first beast in Revelation 13 is the Antichrist that other parts of Scripture warn about. 1 John 2:18. This beast is given power by Satan and demands worship. The second beast then causes everyone to receive a mark so they can buy and sell. Revelation 13:16-17

Let’s look at what Scripture actually says.

What Revelation 13 says:

Revelation 13 talks about two beasts. The first beast is given authority by the dragon, which is Satan. Revelation 13:2, Revelation 12:9

The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. Revelation 13:3-4

The second beast causes all people, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads. And no one can buy or sell unless they have the mark. Revelation 13:16-17

The focus is on worship, deception, and allegiance to the beast instead of to God. Revelation 13:8, Revelation 13:15

What the Bible does NOT say:

The Bible never mentions AI, the Internet, computers, or credit cards by name. John wrote Revelation around 90 AD to churches who understood symbols like beasts, empires, and marks.

Throughout history people have tried to attach new technology to the Beast: radios, TVs, barcodes, credit cards. But the text itself points to a person and a system of worship, not to a specific invention.

What the "mark" is really about:

Yes, a cashless society could be part of how a future system works. But the key in Revelation is not the method of payment. The key is WHOM you belong to.

The mark is tied to worshiping the beast. Revelation 13:15

God’s mark is also mentioned. His people have His name and His seal. Revelation 7:3, Revelation 14:1 This is a battle over allegiance, not over technology.

How we are to respond:

God tells us not to live in fear. 2 Timothy 1:7

God tells us to test everything and hold fast to what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21

God tells us to keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2

Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Prayer:
Jesus, give us wisdom and discernment. Help us not to add to Your Word or take away from it. Keep us from fear and from false teaching. Remind us that You are on the throne and that nothing takes You by surprise. Help us to trust You no matter what system comes. In Your name, Amen.

Takeaway:
The Beast is not AI. The Beast is anything or anyone that tries to take the place of God and demands worship. Our job is not to panic about technology. Our job is to stay faithful to Jesus.

Revelation 1:3 "Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near."

About the "Antichrist" and the "Beast"

You may hear people say "the Antichrist" will make everyone take the mark. But look closely at Revelation. The Bible calls it "the mark of the BEAST." Revelation 13:17

The word "Antichrist" is only found in 1 John and 2 John. There John says an antichrist is anyone who denies that Jesus is the Christ. 1 John 2:22

In Revelation, John calls him "the Beast." Revelation 13:1
In 2 Thessalonians, Paul calls him "the man of lawlessness" who sits in the temple. 2 Thessalonians 2:4

A future world leader is expected to break a covenant with Israel, halt temple sacrifices, and demand worship as God in a rebuilt temple.

Many Bible teachers believe these are all talking about the same end-times person. But the Bible itself in Revelation 13 specifically says it’s the BEAST who is connected to the mark.

So when we talk about this, let’s stick to the words Scripture uses. That keeps us from adding to the Bible. Revelation 22:18

The thing is I do believe we are in end times. I also believe that our modern technology is ripping apart families and shaking the faith of many people. Whilst the Bible doesn't directly say that the prophecy is about Ai, it doesn't say it isn't either. When John wrote revelation, they obviously didn't have the words or understanding of what computers or AI was or how to describe it to people who couldn't understand. AI in my opinion, is definitely not a good thing.

There's also lots of other signs that we are in end times that have been prophesized and that are coming to pass, like moral decline, pestilences and plagues, earthquakes and famines and the rise of an antichrist who makes a false peace treaty with Israel. I think we do need to get ready because I do believe it won't be long before Jesus does come back, there are signs and warnings which we shouldn't have a blase attitude towards.

@CrazyChick21 I pondered over it fully well. And I come to the following conclusion. Anything we start idolizing is not good. The inventions keep happening.

For ex - 1)The day LADDER was invented, many people would think it's SATANIC because through the ladder, we could go to heaven. (Tower of Babel). But the same ladder is used to build homes, Buildings, Churches.

2) The day IRON/STEEL was invented, people could claim it is to kill one another and therefore SATANIC. But The same IRON/STEEL is used to make Plough through which farmers easily Plough the field and yield more grains and vegetables for us.

There are many such examples. I hope it makes you more clear now. Earlier, I was confused too regarding AI. But now, it's clearing out.
@CrazyChick21 It's not the tool that is the problem. It's the people and type of people who might use it for evil. That's anything we get our hands on, even a gun or whatever. I've used it for many good things, even give me info I needed to save my own life. I know another great Christian lady here that does the same. She's into a holistic medicine and what we learn, is purely a godsend. But nothing takes the place of Jesus, for sure. People can always go to one extreme or the other. That's up to them but that doesn't mean what they're using is necessarily evil. Is food evil? No. But how people use it or abuse it is the problem. It can either make us healthy or make us deathly sick.

@LadyGrace we can definitely agree on that nothing takes the place of Jesus, he changed my life for the better. Sorry if anything I said came across as harsh or abrupt. That's never my intention. It's hard talking on the Internet at times when you can't see others facial expressions or hear the time of their voice. I do really like talking with you and appreciate what you share xx

I believe AI will definitely be used for enforcement by the Antichrist though

At the end of the day I try not to panic too much. Jesus got me, and at the end of the day, it is written that none of us know the day nor the hour of when it will all go down
@Djac25 I don't know. It may but I have a feeling that the Antichrist won't need AI. He'll have enough power on his own to deal with people by threatening them.
People keep talking about Antichrist/ beast .....
I have heard these since i was a toddler
Yet many have passed on since then....

People are worrying about the antichrist while they're dont care much about the after life when they die today

AI is nothing more then stealing other websites...AI is not the answer of life.

it's just human's knowledge that are weak trying to play God. that is all.

Jesus is the answer of life.
@FreestyleArt I agree that Jesus is always the answer to life. I also believe that like anything else, we can become addicted to anything if we use it in the wrong way. When I first got my first computer, oh there were some that was saying oh you'll depend on that instead of God and blah blah blah and it's evil. That's a bunch of Bologna. The technology itself is not evil. It's how people use technology at times. One can use it for good or bad. If we don't allow it to take the place of God, then it's not bad. It doesn't force us to believe anything. With some of the things on it are awful and people delve into those when they know they shouldn't and then they wonder why they're having a hard time.
