You can't divorce in Christianity even if you committed someone committed adultery

Jesus says, "whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another, commits adultery".
The exception (porneia) is debated but often understood as grounds for setting aside an invalid marriage (like incest), not a blanket permission for divorce for any sexual sin.

The grounds for divorce is adultery. kind of like God divorcing the Nation of Israel for committing adultery with other gods.

@hippyjoe1955 Actually in genesis they had diverse genetic make up. That's why Adam and Eve lived 935 years. Then around moses times it tells you the wicked stuff foreign nations were doing which was incest.

@RisingMorningStar7 And that proves?????? If incest is an invalid marriage then there is no need for a divorce since the marriage itself was invalid. It used to be that unless the marriage was consummated (sexual intercourse took place) within a certain time the marriage could be annulled. The RCC still uses that dodge to avoid the stigma of divorce. The people don't get divorced their marriages are annulled. Divorce is permitted in cases of adultery only.

@hippyjoe1955 That's ai says read it again it is debate in circles. Only protestants believe in divorce and there flesh blinds them from the true picture, that's why i wouldn't doubt if they are not safe.

@RisingMorningStar7 I'm protestant. I don't believe in divorce. I live in the real world though and see divorce all around me. My son is a Catholic and got his marriage annulled when his wife decided to have sex with another man. The Catholic church asked us to give testimony at the investigation as to whether the former wife had entered into the marriage seriously or not. How on earth would we know what was in her mind 12 years after the marriage took place. We just kind of laughed at the whole silly thing. What was really funny was the 'lawyer' asked us to swear an oath. We declined. He was stunned when we said we don't swear because Jesus said not to swear. I get a hoot out of people who try to twist the simple words of Christ.

@hippyjoe1955 I get very irritated when they try to make God teachings and rely on their flesh to express agreement with it. Paul says to reconciled or remain unmarried which something was/is broken. I know how people make excuses for their flesh but when you stand with God you cannot say I wanted to believe or other told me. It funny most of people that push divorce have a low view on marriage and take it sanctification seriously.

@RisingMorningStar7 Don't look at me. I've been married to the same lovely woman for almost 50 years. However I do recognise that no one should be forced to remain married to an unfaithful partner. God Himself uses that explanation in Jeremiah 3

@hippyjoe1955 I think when it comes to that they should reconciled or remain unmarried. Living along is not like in heaven we will be marry.

@RisingMorningStar7 Jesus said that was grounds for divorce. I believe Him. If you want to argue with Him about it feel free. God uses unfaithful wife analogy to show us why Judaism is no longer the path to Him. He divorced them because they were unfaithful (they worshipped other gods) and so He gave them a writ of divorce and He remarried humanity under the New Covenant.
