Because they had no concrete evidence. But what would be the convincing proof of reincarnation. Only you can ask god himself.

There is no convincing proof of reincarnation.
But when you read the Bible it indicates that God knew us before we were born knew us when we were in the womb as it is said with Jeremiah and Esau, even David hinted to it.
