Notes from Bible reading today
I picked up my Bible for the first time in….???
I used the M’Cheyne reading calendar for my selections. This post is to share what I’m working through, especially for @Stygian and @Matt85 who have showed me kindness while I have been psychotic and suffering these past few days.
Here are my notes:
2Kings9 1Tim6 Hosea1 Psalm119:73-96 Proverbs28
Father, bless my time in your word. I am defeated, broken, torn, Fatherless, isolated.
Failure surrounds my heart. Anxiety. Ruin. Death.
1. 2Kings You are Holy, being sure to bring the consequences down on the heads of unrepentant, evil people. That’s included me for a long time. You were true to this even to the point of holding Jehu accountable for the excess blood he spilled. He was only supposed to destroy Ahab’s lineage, because of the utter evil of Ahab and Jezebel.
2. Hosea 1”Call his name ‘Not my People’, for neither are you my people nor am I your God.”
God is right to disown Israel after generations of their disowning Him, who brought them out of their bondage.
However, Redemption is still available in the next verse. God desires that his creation be reconciled to Him.
3. Psalm 119:73-96
“I shall not die, but I shall live
And recount the deeds of the Lord.
The Lord has disciplined me severely,
But he has not given me over to death.”
(Who the Lord loves, he disciplines Prov 3:11-12)
(It was good that I was afflicted. Psalm 119:71)
4. Psalm 119:73-96
V73 - “Your hands have made and fashioned me. Give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.”
You know how I suffer in my mind because you made my mind. There is still hope that I can live a Godly life.
V74 - “Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice because I have hoped in your word.”
People who know my suffering will be strengthened in their faith because I never gave up on you, and you on me.
V75 - “I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
Let your loyal love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.”
I knew I am facing the consequences of my choices. Please be with me.
5. Proverbs 28
V 14 - “Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart falls into Calamity”
I have allowed my heart to harden to stone - indeed I have fallen into Calamity
V13 - “whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but He who confesses them and forsakes them will obtain Mercy.”
I have been hiding in the dark, avoiding any form of accountability; give me courage to come out and repent that I may have your Mercy.
V26 - “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.”
I have tried to find my own way out and failed. Give me wisdom.
6. 1Tim6
V10 FF - “it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”
This verse is specifically about the Love of money and the idolatry that stems thereof, but this section specifically pairs well with the Juxtaposition of the Lusts of the flesh and Fruits of the Spirit as outlined in the latter part of Paul’s letter to the Galatians.
I think it correctly identifies the source of much of our sufferings as the consequence that of our own decisions, rather than some sort of attack from the enemy or even punishment (not to be confused with correction) from God.
