So let's talk about how the Bible says that the Earth is flat:

On one hand, based on several passages the authors of the Bible appear to have considered the world they lived on to be flat and therefor there's a big overlap between people who believe the Bible and people who believe the Earth is flat and the Bible tells us so.
On the other hand we've got more reasonable Bible-believing Christians, or at least Christians who want the book to be taken seriously, who have to deny and explain away such passages because well...the Earth ain't flat lol.

Personally i agree with the flat earthers that the Bible says the Earth is flat. At least that's the impression i've got from people who actually study the thing in Hebrew.

Bonus question: For the Christian who reject Evolution, how do we justify an unscientific interpretation in that case but reject it in the case of flat earth?

If the Earth is flat why are there mountains on it?
@Diotrephes

lol well it's not flat like a piece of paper. But as opposed to a globe.
The authors of the Bible seem to think it's a disc.

im not familiar with any verse claiming the earth's surface is flat??? the earth i live on has many mountains and valleys. the only part flat is the surface covered with water. the bible was not written by one person to give scientific theory\answers. YET scientists and archaeologists use it for reference and proven passages to be accurate.

Well there are a number of them. For starters in Isaiah chapter 40 it says of God that " He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth"
Not a sphere or ball, mind you but a 2 dimensional circle.

We see also in Matthew chapter 4 when Satan tempts Jesus that the Earth must be flat. It says " Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory."
Well on a globe could you climb an extremely high mountain and be able to see every kingdom on the earth? No, that would only work on a disc.

That same issue arises earlier in Daniel chapter 4 when Nebuchadnezzar describes a dream and Daniel interprets the message from God being communicated in the dream.
But the dream itself describes "There was a tree in the midst of the land, and its height was great. 11The tree grew large and strong; its top reached the sky, and it was visible to the ends of the earth".
Well once again, a tree wouldn't be visible on the whole globe no matter how tall.

And we can't forget that Job 22:14 says that God walks around on the vault of heaven which was envisioned to be a literal, solid dome covering the Earth. Well a dome is a hemisphere.

@Pikachu common sense tells me the height difference between the himalaya mountains and the dead sea is proof the earth is not flat. maybe our definitions are of the word flat are not the same??
@1490wayb

We're not talking about flat as in all the same altitude. We're talking flat as in not a globe.

You seem to care an awful lot about what other people think.

If the god squad want to believe absurdities let them.
@AdmiralPrune

lol what do care? 😜
