Why are there different versions of the 10 Commandments?

Whenever I google it, I will either get a list where the second Commandment is to not use the Lord's name in vain; or it will be not to create false idols; or it will be to not wear any graven images, and if its one of the last two, the third one will be to not use the Lord's name in vain.

Because of that, I have to rule out translation problems.

Some lists include not coveting the neighbor's wife along with not coveting his stuff. Others have wife on her own commandment.

Also, is the New Testament just a rewrite of the Old Testament? ..or are they two totally different books with totally different stories in each one? If thats the case, does the Old Testament allude to the New Testament at all? Is Jesus Christ mentioned in both books?

Well first off you have two different versions in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. Then you have the Catholic Vulgate versus a million other Protestant translations and I would not be surprised if the Orthodox bible is different yet again on this too.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow akways about that binary, coincidence, not.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow yea, but as i stated in a different reply, i dont understand how they could have been that far off since they came down with Moses, a Jew, thousands of years before Christianity, ..as i understand it..
@Jayciedubb Except there is no evidence it is literal. We have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hand accounts from thousands of years ago and then selected to fit a new religion at the time.

The bible is also not a coherent text. It is a collection of vaguely associated written texts that are vaguely connected based on a Jewish new religion at the time.

Some texts included are mythology (like most if not all of Exodus), written accounts years after the people involved were dead and in the case of Corinthians you have letters from Paul that would be like the equivalent of having your emails added to a religious text.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow yea, i get that. It's kinda human nature, just like everything else in nature, to create and follow paths of least resistance.

Similiar behavior still occurs today. Control the masses with fear. Blame the boogyman. I've always questioned questionable behavior and run a scenario based on the latest narratives i face from time to time. Its funny when "they're" faced with the flaws in "their" own logic.

I have so many funny anecdotes bubbling up as im writing, i don't know where to go with them while remaining on topic..

What i wanted to say is that i understand why the stories must be so dramatic. I'm sure it had to be even more dramatic back in the day, when life was much cheaper. Some people can't be nice for the sake of peace. They have to be threatened by the boogyman constantly or they might become the boogeyman
