Genesis Chapter 1

1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."

Genesis Chapter 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Adam and Eve
4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

@LordShadowfire IMO, God made Eve from Adam's rib, out of his side, showing that a woman should be at the side of man. Not above man, not below man, not to lead or follow man, but as an equal to man.

You're never going to get through that stuff about the Tabernacle.
Carazaa · F
@JohnnySpot We can do it!

@JohnnySpot

It even took an eleven-word story to express the impossibility.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Carazaa I find no reason to adhere to the description given.
This is a mistranslation. The first word "bereshit" relates to the words that come after it, so it can't be translated in isolation. It means "In the beginning of" meaning when God began to create the heavens and earth. This was not the beginning of everything, it was only the beginning of that specific action.

@LeopoldBloom

So, in your opinion, would a better translation be: "When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep."?

So as to leave unsaid anything else that God might have created other than the heavens and the earth?

Thanks for this. 😊
Cool! Great place to start. So let's talk about the fact that, according to this ancient book of mythology, God created the plants before he created the sun.

Why would he do it that way? That's stupid. He would then have to use his God powers to keep those plants alive, because they wouldn't be able to photosynthesize until the sun was created. That's a waste of his time and energy, so I guess you and the author of Genesis are saying that God is inefficient.
@Carazaa This isn't your site. It belongs to @Andrew. And I didn't think that asking you about scientific realities was an attack. Honestly, if your reality is so fragile that a few scientific facts feel like an attack, there's a problem. And that problem rhymes with schmognitive schmissonance.
Carazaa · F
@LordShadowfire You need to learn learn to be nice and stop attacking people!
@Carazaa I understand what you're saying here. You're saying that questioning the narrative and pointing out scientific facts is attacking you. Understood.

By the way, plants still need sunlight to photosynthesize, and God didn't make the sun until the day after he made the plants.

I have never felt "forced" to block anyone, and yes,
I've been called names too. 🤭
Let me ask you this. Do you respect the rules to which you agreed when you created your account? Or do you think those rules are only for other people?

This is not a trick question.
@Thinkerbell You've called me some other things over the years. Now you're going to deny it, and force me to go looking for them.

Why is it that people always deny having written things in a place that saves everything?

At any rate, what I mean is, when you report somebody for certain violations, the website makes you block them, whether that was what you wanted or not.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire

So why report them in the first place, knowing that SW might "force" you to block them — unless it was your intention to block all along?

I notice that you conspicuously dodged the fact of your calling me obscene names for female genitalia. 😂

So your claptrap about observing SW rules is just that — claptrap. 🤭

Edit: And, characteristically, when backed into a logical corner, "Corvie" (aka "Shady") has blocked me again. 😂😂😂

@Thinkerbell He's blocked me. Thankfully. Yes he does have at least a third account. I discovered it when he first argued with me. He told me two of the accounts arguing with me were him. F knows why he told me. But a third started on me for no reason. I accused the third account, and it would not admit that it was him. He kept saying you can only have two accounts per email address, and if you block one, all get blocked. I pointed out that a VPan would get round that and different email addresses. The third account blocked me.
