How can we take the Bible as an unchanging guide to morality when it condones slavery?

You can murder men and women and keep the virgin girls as your slaves.
You can beat them to within an inch of their life and suffer no consequence.
You can keep them forever and pass them on to your children as your property.

The bible says this is ok...and we all know it's not. So how can you trust it as a moral guide?

THat's why American racists like the Bible so much. It approves of racism and all kinds of other evil acts.

The bible certainly can and has been put to use to justify pretty much whatever a group wants it to.

Ben-Gurion only liked the parts that said how wonderful the israelites were and how God promised them the Levant from the Nile to the Euphrates River.

Since I invoke Torah so often, let me state that I don't personally believe in the God it postulates ... I am not religious, nor were the majority of the early builders of Israel believers. Yet their passion for this land stemmed from the Book of Books ... [The Bible is] the single most important book in my life.
