Removing the weeds

Today at church we read the parable of the weeds among the wheat from the Gospel of Matthew. This parable represents the evil that gets injected into the world. Although the reflection from today talks about the good and evil in the world but also in our own lives. We all sin and and have weeds growing in our own lives aswell even if we are Christian. It is a good reminder to try and weed out our own lives too.

Not about removing the weeds, not at all, but all about the wheat still growing. We are all sinners and stay that. To deny that would be really dishonest. What to do? To be the wheat that is still growing despite everything else, including the bad soil where the original grain fell

@val70 true but we should still try and remove sin from our lives. It is one thing to try and avoid sin but fall short because of our weakness than to just willingly accept sin. I think there is a difference.

Just because there is forgiveness doesnt give us the freedom to freely sin. We should try and keep "the soil" clean as much as we can.

@Random3838 Not so, we all as christians need to put out the example of Christ in us. No more and no less. There's nothing violent at being christian. It's all about love. There's no clean soil

@val70 there is no clean soil yet its all about love? I am not following what you mean. Also, i said nothing about christians being violent. Im not sure where that came from.

My whole point is, yes we are sinners and will always be sinners, but we can TRY to avoid sin as much as we can.

@Random3838 Peter renounced Christ, and so poor creatures that we are, we will do that daily again and again. Evil is all about. We're almost wearing it on our shoulders each day. To be staring at the weeds in the parable is to not understand the importance of both the fragility and importance of the weath. I'm sorry, but I've studied it in great detail and it's indeed one of the corner stones for the religion

@val70 that is not a corner stone in Christianity. I do not mean to offend you or anyone else but what you are saying, or at least what i am understanding (i can be understanding wrong) sounds like Calvanist theology; i.e. God predetermined our sins so there is nothing we can do about it (paraphrasing). Again, i can be misinterpreting what you are trying to say.

We can definitely avoid sin. We have free will. Free will to choose good or to choose evil. To have wheat or to have weeds. It is our choice. Often times, we choose poorly. But we definitely can choose not to do that evil.

Then there is the question of mental illness, addiction, depression and so forth which is different and i am not talking about those situations. In normal cases, people can avoid evil if they want to.

@Random3838 You think that Jesus cured mental illness then? I see. As I thought
Random3838 · 36-40, M
@val70 ?? I never said Jesus could or could not cure mental illness. But, hey, that was a good redirect though!
val70 · 51-55
@Random3838 As I thought so from the start. I wish you all the luck with the weeding :-)

@Random3838 According to the Bible, it is a sin to work on the Sabbath. So, why do you constantly do it?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Random3838 The Bible says that everything has been predetermined and that there is no such thing as "free will."

@Diotrephes Not that you probably care but read Hebrews if you want to know. Also, you dont know me...how do you know if i work on the sabbath or not?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Random3838 Maybe you do some cooking, a little house cleaning, washing the car, cutting the grass, tying your shoes, or some othe mundane task. All of those and much more is considered to be work on the sabbath, which the Bible says warrants the death penalty. So, if you want to live by biblical rules, then follow all of them without exception.

And, when you violate some of Jesus' rules you may have to engage in self-mutilation, like chopping off a hand or gouging out an eye or two.
Random3838 · 36-40, M
@Diotrephes i have already cut off both my hands and gouged out both my eyes
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Random3838 I extend my sincere condolences for your horrific loss.
@val70 Jesus can cure anything He sees fit.
