I knew a guy who could string together cliche after cliche seemingly endlessly. One night we were driving and he was over a hour late getting us to our destination.

He said:

You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water…

I lost it…

I said WTF does that mean?

@Muthafukajones It means don't discard what is important in an effort to get rid of something you don't want. 🙂

@Patientlywaiting Try to imagine listening to a person recite endless sayings for hours.

@Muthafukajones I like idioms a lot but I have an autistic son who just doesn't get them at all, which is very common for those on the spectrum so I've got used to having to understand and explain them to him. Luckily I've never known a person to constantly use them in conversation. That would be a bit weird. Who is the guy and why does he speak like that?

@Patientlywaiting He has some brain damage from doing a lot of drugs. He’s a kindly older man who goes to church a lot. A few years ago when I wasn’t driving he was giving me rides to work a lot and would drive me nuts while driving me to work.

@Muthafukajones I think the older generation seem to use more of them in general for some reason.
