Is anyone here Christian?

I find it so hard to be Christian, not exactly Christian but godly. I watch near death experiences where people go to heaven or hell and that makes me want to be closer to god. But I’m a wild and free spirited person and so much of the scripture is bringing yourself in line. Does god really want us to battle our nature.

Your desire to be near to God is so lovely...so beautiful! You CAN be near to Him...right now. All you have to do is quietly whisper to Him, and tell HIM what you want, and how you feel. HE already knows your heart...He watches you, and He has been waiting for this moment.

You can talk to God, in quiet whispers, and if you are still enough, and calm enough, He will answer you...sometimes in silent words from the Holy Spirit, and sometimes with feelings of immense love, and immense peace.

Read the new testament. Start with Matthew. I am reading that now.
4meAndyou · F
@acpguy The entire new testament was assembled about 200 years after the death of Christ Jesus from scraps of documents and letters. That does not mean that I can not love Matthew.
acpguy · C
@4meAndyou The Holy Roman Empire was dreamed up by Constantine who controlled the popes of that time as a way to bring all his empire under one church to control the masses. All christian religions sprang up from this fake religion created as method of control similar to socialism / communism / new world order / and our politics in the USA. Much of the New Testament was written to bring more people under the control of the Holy Roman Empire or the Holy Roman Catholic Church that ruined many cultures around the world with missionaries that helped different emperors / kings to exploit the native populations and their land. Similar to what China has done with slave labor and Communism and their goal is to take over the world the same as the Holy Roman Empire and Constantine.
4meAndyou · F
@acpguy Constantine did a lot of bad things, for sure.

I am Christian. I often find the closer I get to God and my faith the bigger the struggle is...I think it is spiritual warfare. The closer we get to God the harder the Devil tries to chip away at us. I try to put on the armour of God everyday...read the bible, pray and listen to the holy spirit. I do not think he asks us not to be ourselves. I think he asks us to turn away from evil, from sin and sometimes that appears to be the path of least resistance. I don't think that is our true self though.
tmmaier · 51-55, F
@sree251 I am sober thank you. The thing is do you know the day I no longer have to be diligent about maintaining my sobriety is the day I enter heavens gates.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@tmmaier Great.
Jackson711247 · 36-40, M
@tmmaier i agree 100% that is not our true selves. Yes the closer we get to YHWH the more the devil sends temptation our way because he is trying to deceive and kill as many as God people as he can. But he has already been defeated.
daydeeo · 61-69, M
He doesn't want us to battle the wild and free parts of ourselves. We're made to be wild and free.
He does want us to battle the lower aspects of our nature - and I'm finding that to be a lifelong project!
But He doesn't ask us to do it by sheer force of will power alone. He gives us His Word, His Spirit, and fellow believers.
"Be still and know that I am God."

Would God consider wild and free spirited sinful?

I mean, to some drinking chocolate milk is wild and free spirited.

Anyway, if sinful, yes, you would prolly want to reign it in.

Mans nature is to be sinful,so yes God wants us to battle our nature.
That and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

@Iwillwait that Christ died in the cross for my sins, was the blood atonement that I needed to cover All my sins, past, present and future. All I needed to do was except that He did it for me. He is my Savior
Iwillwait · M
@1pebbles Yes. 🤗
Jackson711247 · 36-40, M
God wants us to follow him and obey his commands. I understand you're a wild and free spirit, but where your soul spends eternity forever is what truly matters. The father will help you fight this battle here on earth. With him ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.

I am a Christian. Became one in my early 20's when i read the Bible.. Nothing since then has caused me to doubt God..

No one has lived up to the standards of God except Jesus who is God manifested in the flesh.. So while it is frustrating and sometimes depressing that we cannot be perfect, we also understand that Jesus has us covered 🤗 .. So we just do our best and let Jesus take care of the rest..

Battling our nature is called the good fight.. We do not fight with the idea of defeating our imperfection.. We engage in the good fight because we love the standards of God.. We try to be good for goodness sake rather then out of the expectation of actually defeating our own human natures.. Again we know our failings are covered by the LORD Jesus.. All praise and Glory and boasting is for and to Jesus our Hero.. Remember Jesus is forgiving us.. So acknowledge your faults and thank Jesus for His Loving gift of Atonement which see's us redeemed..

I quit being christian when I was in high school. I learned what hypocrites they are and what illogical beliefs they have. I do believe in God however.
daydeeo · 61-69, M
@acpguy That's just a wee bit of a generalization, don't you think?
acpguy · C
@daydeeo NO!
daydeeo · 61-69, M
@acpguy 🤷
Only to battle the dark parts of us. The hate, fear and despair as much as one can. Fear of hell is one of those fears as well because it is incompatible with an unconditional loving God. A lot of Jesus's message was the renunciation of the world and to focus on spiritual matters. And from what I have seen you are one of the more spiritual people.
And yes there are Christians on the site but remember literally ever person has their own version. Trying to shoehorn everyone into believing the same thing is just ridiculous. Christianity in general isn't a cult that you are either in or out of. It the answer to the question of weather or not one believes in Jesus. So that means a lot of people that are christian aren't nessasarily good people. Just as not all non Christians are bad.
But find a good person that speaks to your heart. Listen to people's NDEs, read other faiths, especially Judaism as it has more holistic approachs to spirituality. But take everything with a grain of salt and reject anything that is against the person you want to be. God put you here to be you, not someone else. So tailor your beliefs to you.

I go to church, I really like the social side but do struggle with the hard work part 😬
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Strongtea You are not a Christian. You are a church-goer.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Ok whatever you think.@sree251
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Strongtea It's not whatever I think. It's what you are. Knowing what you are is the the next best thing to being a Christian. Not giving a damn at all is what most people are these days.

Although I'm more catholic than Luther, because I do believe that there's more than we can understand out there at times, I would return to his Small Catechism which has proved especially effective in helping parents teaching their children about christianity through the ages. It's easy-to-understand instructional and devotional material on the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, The Lord's Prayer, baptism, and the Lord's Supper. Out of these the first three are the most important; the commandments, the creed and prayer
sree251 · 41-45, M
@val70 Christianity that comes out of a book is boring. Christianity has to do with living life. The way of life that come out of a book of instructions is meant for mechanical robots.
val70 · 51-55
@sree251 Try figuring out scripture like that without one particular book and you'll come a cropper alright
Being wild and free spirited doesn't mean you can't be Christian, close to God or Godly. Just don't be evil. Accept God's love. Ask forgiveness because none of us is perfect.
No. God wants us to align with our nature. I watch a lot of near-death experience accounts, as well, and have for years. What I hear makes me want to transition to the other side. You'll notice in the NDEs, there's no mention of religion, as though it's something that's needed to continue our lives in glorious fashion. Many of the experiencers talk about there being NO religion on the other side. Religion is a human creation, often times forced on people because of someone's insecurity. It's a business.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@PhoenixPhail The other side is pure formless spirit. No language is spoken. This is why there is no religion which can only be expressed in words in this world of people.

2 Corinthians 5:21-He made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us, so that we may have the righteousness of God.
Sjones13 · 41-45, M
I’d suggest find a church near you to attend Sunday. Tell the preacher what’s on your heart
sam1992 · 31-35, M
Just keep sane what ever it takes . I am a Muslim and I actually never found or felt that God wants me to battle my nature. Just new things need to be well understood .
sree251 · 41-45, M
@sam1992 What is your nature?
sam1992 · 31-35, M
@sree251 Peaceful
sree251 · 41-45, M
@sam1992 Being peaceful is a good nature, in my opinion. Why would God want you to battle such a nature?
CestManan · 46-50, F
I would burst into flames if I walked into a church
sree251 · 41-45, M
@CestManan Why is that? I thought you meant bursting into flames literally as if you were the devil walking on holy ground. In which case, fire is your domain, the Lake of Fire.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@sree251 it was just a joke. Try not to take it too serious
sree251 · 41-45, M
@CestManan I am not being serious. Couldn't you tell? You are obviously not the devil. He's a lot smarter.
Pfuzylogic · M
Our true nature is to be in relationship with God. Jesus died to act as your replacement to receive the punishment of sins and restore our relationship with God.
I guess I must be since I believe in Jesus , The Gospels but I rarely go to church . Does that make me Christian ?
sree251 · 41-45, M
God wants you to realize your true nature and don't be a loser.
Pfuzylogic · M
@sree251
You have trolled this post.
Have you no shame?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Pfuzylogic Why do you say this? Make your case. I deserve a fair hearing and not be condemned by careless accusation.
eyeno · M
Not to battle but to unlearn things that are not pleasing to Him..,
Finding God should be freedom. Our nature is sin, so yes, that's the enemy. But none of that means you can't be free-spirited

@DemureDeb Faith in Jesus alone will not save you. You have to apply what he taught. Only then will you be awakened to the truth that sets you free from the miseries of this world of fake science.
