Why do Christians grieve so when a loved one dies? Do they grieve as much as an atheist? They'll be reunited with them in paradise so why so sad?

Surely it would just be the sadness of a loved one moving away or something right?

I don't mean this antagonistically and i apologize if this is insensitive. I'm just curious because it seems given the worldview that a Christian shouldn't be terribly upset when a family member dies.

@markansas The vows are quite specifically "until death do us part".
Punches · 46-50, F
@markansas not really because the marriage vows do say, until death do you part.

@markansas Yep there's that whole thing. I was taught that in heaven all those earthly things don't matter anymore. They have an out for everything because they have the "everything is possible in God" card
@OggggO so they do not spend the end-life together?
OggggO · 36-40, M
@markansas Matthew 22:30 says no.
@markansas Check your marriage vows... the ones that are said at virtually every wedding in the world
@JimboSaturn gay or trans or ... or .. well that leaves a lot open does it not.. gheesh
@markansas

The Sadducees ask Jesus hisownself that question.
Essentially the answer is there is no bond of marriage in heaven....which always struck me as kind of shitty.
@HootyTheNightOwl i was lds.. so here i check . it depends on who married you if it is forever or just temp.

If we are married by any authority other than by the priesthood in a temple, the marriage is for this life only. After death, the marriage partners have no claim on each other or on their children.
An eternal marriage by the priesthood in a temple gives us the opportunity to continue as families after this life.
@Pikachu is there sex in heaven? one mass orgy
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@markansas I was taught we will be more than our gender in heaven or it won't be important anymore.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@markansas Oh, that explains a bit. LDS doctrine is widely divergent from literally every other branch of Christianity.

@markansas In heaven we are all in a state on perpetual orgasmic bliss 😇
@markansas

I'm not sure.
On earth sex is only meant to happen within the covenant of marriage and for the purpose of reproduction.
Not sure what the rules are for boning in heaven. Presumably we'll be too busy giving glory to god lol
@JimboSaturn Scripture teaches that marriage is a unique test and picture of faithfulness, but in heaven no such test is necessary for only the faithful will be there. There is no logical reason for why there won't be sex in heaven. If other bodily enjoyments like eating and drinking will be there then, most certainly, it is reasonable to expect that there will be sexual enjoyment also. Sex in heaven will be driven spiritually and by perfect love.

@markansas I was taught exactly that, I was tyring to make a joke :P
@markansas

Could be.
I wonder if you're allowed to have gay sex in heaven or if that one is still bad
@Pikachu i would think not.. kinda opens up all the doors .. gotta love it.
