I was part of a religious cult

During my 20's I was part of the Jesus army in the UK. They teach to live completely separate from the world. That the world is full of demons and evil people. They instil fear into their followers. Many time with them left me with a messed up view of religion and God. It also left me with really bad social anxiety. I am trying to rebuild my relationship with God in a more healthy way now.

A lot of lonely young people get caught up because they are looking for a family to belong too. But God gave most of us a sound mind and the ability to think for ourselves. Time comes to take down that camp we built around our hurt and move on. Most churches in this country are filled with wonderful people who just look to follow Jesus and his teachings. I’m glad you’ve done that. What’s in the past should stay in the past. 🙏🏻

If people only read the Bible.. Even just the New testament then their would be far fewer victims of the deception of cults..

@Adstar yes that's true..I was young and new to the Lord back then. The church was very charismatic and exciting. I didn't see the corruption under the surface for a long time. When I did I started to kick back and ask questions. This was not taken well.

@RubiesandButterflies Charismatic and exciting is key, I think. And a sense of community and being accepted. Until you want to assert your individuality. Do you think some people really are made for such a community?
