Even though I am a Christian in the US there is a separation of Church and State.

@Pfuzylogic But should there be? America would really benefit from a return to Christianity.
We could still have freedom of religion. People definitely shouldn't be persecuted for their beliefs. But we should have laws that encourage a culture of Christianity.

@GoodCatholicGirl
The US has a constitution which has acted as guidance for our country?
I served 22 years in the military to protect it. I am convinced that there are enough Christians involved that the church is sufficiently represented.
@Pfuzylogic The Bible is a better guide than the constitution.
There are still a lot of Christians in America, but how many of them take Christianity seriously these days?

Besides, this move by Bavaria is just a way of reminding people that Christianity is part of Bavarian culture. Bavarians still have freedom of religion. America can also do things to remind everyone we are a Christian country without taking away religious freedom.

@GoodCatholicGirl
Have you served your country?
It is hard to take your opinion serious if you haven’t. trump never served our country either.
@Pfuzylogic What does that have to do with anything? I respect all American soldiers, but a soldier could still be wrong.

@GoodCatholicGirl
I was senior enlisted. Those who haven’t served haven’t put “skin” in the game and have not earned the right to have an opinion. The Catholics would say they have committed Sloth and are dangerous to the morals of others.
@Pfuzylogic Well we have to disagree there. I think your sacrifice is very admirable, but you can still be wrong when it comes to politics.

@GoodCatholicGirl
Like I said you have done nothing to earn the right of an opinion. Maybe your parents have served their country though.
@GoodCatholicGirl yeah, but I wonder if that Bavarian move really is about Christianity. I'm from Quebec which has been very secular for a while now. But every so often, when some kind of anti-nationalistic pluralism comes around, suddenly Catholicism is so very important. Christian-Catholicism is an ethnicity, not a religion. Maybe it's that way in Bavaria too
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP It sounds like when Catholicism is threatened, then people ban together to defend it, so it's more noticeable how important it is.
I'm not that familiar with Quebec, but if the local culture and religion is being pushed aside because of pluralism or globalism, then of course people will fight back.
In Europe, Christianity and the native European cultures have been under threat for a long time. This move by Bavaria is their way of reminding everyone that Bavaria needs to stay Bavarian and Catholic.
@GoodCatholicGirl well, I can tell you in Quebec, Catholicism was never threatened; it was abandoned. And now the people who (rightly or wrongly) abandoned it are pretending that it's important. I suspect Quebec isn't unique in this way
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Well I do hope that at least some of those people are truly coming back to Catholicism because they realized it's important.
I know a lot more about Germany, my boyfriend is actually from Bavaria, and Catholicism is definitely being threatened there.
@GoodCatholicGirl Is Bavaria a Roman Catholic country?
@adaddy4u It's a German state with a Roman Catholic culture and history.

@Pfuzylogic actually it is called no "establishment of religion" but the point is correct

@laotzu92
I attended a seminar hosted by Barbara Jordan on this point. I am familiar.

@Pfuzylogic the problem with Jefferson's remark in a letter, "separation of church and state", is that many people think that is what the First Amendment says instead of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"; and hence that any recognition of the Deity in public is prohibited.

@laotzu92
Barbara back in the early 90s proposed that since the creators of the comstitution were primarily Christian that the values they upheld would be reflected in the legislation created. As listed, 95% considered themselves Christian but it wasn’t like England where Henry VIII created the Church of England to combat Catholicism.
