I Am Christian (roman Catholic)

This is an interesting read with bible references for praying with the saints. I wouldn't really expect it to overcome the ob<x>jections raised by our non Catholic Christian brothers and sisters though.

Whether the saints are alive or dead is not really the point here. Rather why would I speak to the servant when I can talk to the Master? Especially knowing that the servant has no authority on his/her own except to speak to the Master which I could have done on my own. In my mind its bordering on worshiping the creation instead of the Creator.

Please help me to understand, kind sir, the difference between you asking your Christian brothers and sisters to pray with you is different from me asking my Christian brothers and sisters to pray with me. My Christian brothers and sisters are all members of either The Church Militant, The Church Suffering or The Church Triumphant and we all pray together to God.

Well I suppose it would start with me not asking others for prayer. My prayer life is likely very different than yours. When I pray I don't gather with others. I go to my prayer 'closet' alone and ask Jesus for forgiveness. Then I ask that He wash me with His Blood that I may be clean before Yahweh and that He surround me with His Blood that I may be kept safe while I am in the Spiritual realms. I then shut up and listen to the Eternal Whispers.

HippyJoe, Saints ARE NOT dead. They are alive with God in Heaven.

Very good commentary. I see you are prophetic, though: You already have a non Catholic objecting. Too bad he didn't properly read the article and make an honest attempt to understand.

I don't attempt to try to change the heart of the non Catholics, only The Holy Spirit can do that, but I will defend my beliefs. I have come to realize that one generally has more success in evangelizing by example rather than by attacking them or trying to push one's beliefs on them. I witnessed an Amish community convert to Catholicism because of the example of a group of Benedictine monks. The monks didn't try to convert them, the Amish community just realized that after observing the monks, the monks had something they were lacking and wanted. I didn't expect that any non Catholics would be members of a Roman Catholic group.

Actually I did read the article and it uses and argument that CS Lewis used as well. That aside for the moment the point I am making is that too often I have heard people praying to the 'dead' saint rather than ask him/her for intercession. In other words they have abandoned God and have begun to worship the creation. As St Paul wrote: "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."

St. Francis of Assisi said something along the lines to always preach your faith and if you have to use words.
