New Dream Job Asking for All of my Time. Not worth it.

Well.. I’ve been working in a specific industry for several years.. I recently had an offer to join one of the largest company’s in this industry and I quickly over a few months have found myself in a position where I notice my supervisor is working on weekends, until 8,9,10 at night .. then she’s reaching out again at 5am… I recently had covid and there was zero excuse to stop working even when I expressed a need to take a day off to actually go to the hospital. It was still implied that I would be completing work that day… I also couldn’t take a last minute meeting at 6pm at night well because I had plans to pick up my kids.. I received an email the next day with the intro saying “hope you had a fun family filled evening with your kids”…. I’m starting to get concerned that yikes! This may not be a fit despite it being a long term goal. Like the salary is literally half of what I’ve had in the past.. it’s way not worth it lol… I guess I’m looking for some advice or reassurance. Should I just do my best while maintaining my boundaries until it doesnt work out? Should I make moves to get out? Anyone had similar experiences?

It’s not a dream job then.
A wise old engineer once said to me:
“Nobody ever lay on their death bed and wished they had worked more hours.”
Time is everything in life. No time, no life.
in my experience, there isn't a work place that will back off and become more reasonable. maybe you can work with your manager and get somewhere, but if they don't respect your time now, it's just going to get worse. I just recently left a job that had similar, although somewhat lower expectations of time. when you get into that sort of state, it becomes very difficult to even look for a new job while you're putting in so much time. and another down sign with the passive aggressive email from your manager after taking time for very mundane life type things.

I would clarify with HR that you are not expected work after hours, not allowed to have sick time , or days off ( weekends?)

Your supervisor has no life other than work . She is trying to advance her career at the expense of your family life and personal time .

When I first started I worked 18 hour days . Half the time I didn’t know what day it was . I only showered and slept in my apartment. I lived at the office … but I was single, had no attachments and wanted to work .

It’s never a bad idea to always be looking for a better job . I sorry it’s not working out for you.

Sounds like they’re seriously taking advantage of their employees. What you’re describing sounds like abuse really. You deserve better.

This is not worth it. Your supervisor is a bee-yatch, and is trying to guilt you into working while you have covid, and then pretending you are having fun with your family and kids when you have to pick them up?

She is actually using those emails to cover her own a$$ by blaming her deficiencies on YOU.

Get OUT while the getting is good.
