Building huge new battleships is an incredibly expensive and stupid idea with no clear mission.

I agree completely. But its gone further now. The aircraft carrier now only serves to move local force to a distant location to deliver firepower in a blow to a lesser force.. This is the age of the missile and the drone. A carrier group is too vulnerable and expensive cost wise and politically to risk losing to a couple of nuclear missiles or a fleet of drones vectoring in from various directions at once..😷

They make an excellent target
