Do you think it's necessary for high ranking leaders of a military to have combat experience?

I often wonder how Singapore would do given none of us are tested. I mean thank god we're not, but what if you know?

I can't think of any other armed force that has not had a sliver of experience.

Taiwan faces an existential threat, the Philippines is forever fighting, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have had small conflicts with extremist threats, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, well their histories speak for themselves.

You could send some nudes to the enemy and they will wank themselves to death!
Most high ranking officers are in bunkers far away from any fighting so even "combat experience" is very very different from the experience of say an enlisted soldier.

And it could go either way. Some historical greats have come from completely humble and non traditional backgrounds.

And some of the biggest screw ups had all the right qualifications on paper.
