Do you love your country's military or feel ashamed by having military forces ?

I'm somewhere in the middle. I do not in any way love the military because they are agents of government, and government's should not be trusted. I just don't feel they automatically deserve 'elite' status. It's just another job really but military personal have succumbed to doing the government's bidding in exchange for a sense of social eliteness.

I think it depends on the country and how they use the military. In UK, the military is often seen as non-politicial which helps, furthermore the fact that they are in a job that has a real possibilty of placing them in mortal danger and they don't get paid a huge amount adds to it. They may be deployed here on civil contingency basis -e.g. covering for other public services - e.g. medical, fire fighting, logistics etc.

They aren't used as a weapon against political opponents here which makes a big difference - in countries where they are a political tool it is completely different.
