That's a fair point, but one could assume that at least an equal amount of jobs would be created from the sudden need for translators, diplomats, andything relating to working together with countries.
The military gear could be repurposed a lot of it, for civilian use. The loss of money would seem to outweigh the massive potential of a united world.
