Are we on the verge of war with Iran?

@OfflineFriend Iran is a Shi'a Muslim country. America haaaaaaaates Shi'a Islam. That's why they've bombed my homeland into oblivion. That's why 93,000 children aged 5 and under have died of starvation. That's why 14,000,000 people are at risk of famine.

@RadiantRuby No, I'm Yemeni. By citizenship, that is. Ethnically I'm not Middle Eastern. I was born in Sana'a though, just after the unification of Northern and Southern Yemen.

@OfflineFriend In the 1950's Iran held an actual democratic election, which is not common for most Middle Eastern countries. But they had a real election, and a guy named Mohammad Mosadeq was elected. He wanted to return Iran's oil wealth to the Iranian people, but the USA (and also Britain) were super pissed off because that meant they'd need to pay more for oil. So they teamed up, assassinated Mosadeq, overthrew the Iranian government, and installed a puppet dictator who became an extremely oppressive tyrant that abused the Iranian citizens. Since then, Iran has hated our guts, for good reason. Thus was the birth of bad blood between us.
