I actually advise against working too hard. Going above your station and doing too much is a bad thing for the team and your boss. Doing work well, devising processes and getting them written down will help everyone and assure your view of competency.
Working extra hours, skipping breaks and becoming objective oriented can be really mentally draining and come with certain expectations your boss simply can't meet like remuneration or extra leave. By means outside of their control of course. In my view, I get paid 8 hours a day to work so I do 8 hours of work. I priorities my objectives and know what I can drop.
Its super damn hard to but... It can be learned.
