Fired 3 years into job, so upset

Guys.. I run a very small business with clients. I have a long time, my biggest by far client that let me go today. I only have a handful of clients. I’m at a bit of a loss. I’ve made a huge difference in their marketing and When I first started they were only getting maybe a handful of leads a month. By the time I left I boosted it to like 400 phone calls a month. I was doing all sorts of extra things like managing 15 different lead sources doing web design and social media.. a lot of work for 1 person! The design looks really top notch.. like it doesn’t make sense when you look at the numbers, they’ve seen a huge uptick in paid marketing revenue. However their organic marketing is down,, their industry is suffering do to recession and is down across the country, I work with a couple other companies in the same industry. The reason they let me go is that some marketing agency gave them a great 30 minute presentation and did some fear mongering and said the site was bad etc etc.. they had that meeting at 12:30pm and fired me at 1:05… 5 minutes after they got off that call. I just.. wow… 3 years of loyalty, working through the birth of my child.. all the sweat and tears I’ve put into that job and some random person comes out of the blue that says a bunch of untrue stuff and they just fire me on the spot,. I’m a little hurt and can’t get over the shock. Any advice?

My husband says I need to toughen up and stop thinking twice about it. He said honestly like I shouldn’t take it personal and that it’s probably not even really about me. All true things but like I just can’t process it or move on from it. These types of things, getting fired or loosing a big client upset me very much and for days I’m sure it will be.

The business is your baby and you put your heart and soul into it, that's why you take it personally. You shouldn't though, because it's not personal. It's just business. Every so often a company will decide that they need change to freshen things up. They need new ideas. This may be because they have new management who want to bring in their own identity to the job, or it may be because turnover or profit is down and they want to try and take a different direction. It happens. Often the change that they make turns out to be worse than what they had and they end up going back to where they started.
