From the Seeking Alpha analysis:
What is really behind the decision.
The planned Lake Nona Town Center was set to bring more than 2,000 jobs to the Orlando region. Many of those employees would've come from a Southern California department known as Imagineering, which works with Disney's moviemakers to develop theme park attractions. Most of them complained harshly about the planned move, set up in 2021 amid what Disney Parks chief Josh D'Amaro called Florida's "business-friendly climate". Meanwhile, Bob Iger, who recently returned as CEO, was much less enthusiastic about the Lake Nona development than his predecessor Bob Chapek.
It is false to say that 2000 jobs will move to CA-they are there already.

@laotzu92 It’s get less business friendly by the day…
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@justanothername That does seem to be your (unsupported factually) theme.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@laotzu92 Well DeSantis is not a fan of Disney which tells me he’s not a fan of big business either.
Those are my observations from reading about the heated interactions between Disney and DeSantis.

Great! The kiddie diddlers are leaving. Ron DeSantis is the best governor in America.

@MrBrownstone I understand it’s one of the biggest employers in Florida and the ONLY company in Florida that was about to spend $1 Billion on a business development in the local community.

@justanothername @justanothername It's not exactly going to sink the state's economy. If they want to go to a shithole with high taxes, good for them.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@CactusJackManson I doubt there’s that much difference in tax between Florida and California to make a difference to a company like Disney. It’s the attitude of the people and the politicians that counts.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
This is going to be seen as a victory for DeSantis.

So? Fascists squabbling with other fascists over their privatized streets.
It's not even politics.

@justanothername they're all one team arguing over style. It's not even a public thing.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Roundandroundwego It’s public when it impacts jobs and livelihoods.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@justanothername Yes. Disney actually built Celebration Florida as the first privatized city. It had many things to recommend it to the public, though it was never subject to the review of any voters.
Recently the entire downtown was sold to a wall street firm.
People could expect more democracy than that but they're not trying.

The Disney war is heating up. Lol
LordShadowfire · M
Good. If he ruins Florida enough, maybe they'll finally wise up.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire It’s not the job of the Federal govt to bail out businesses. Banks yes.
LordShadowfire · M
@justanothername I'm talking about the entire state of Florida. The way DeSantis is going, the state will be broke and bankrupt.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire Hopefully he will get voted out before that happens.
