Seagulls are pretty smart

I was at McDonald's thismorning and this massive seagull landed on my bonnet.
*Peck* he goes on the windshield. He repeats this a few times.
I thought he was cute and funny, so I opened the door a little and gave him a bit of my egg muffin.
But then he stays and again *pecks* and again.
Like dude, I just fed you. Where is your Social Anxiety?

The seagulls around me often leave me some unwelcome decoration on my paintwork and windscreen. I'm not so keen on them. I'm the one with social anxiety when I see them. 😄

@FreddieUK I live in Oklahoma and the seagulls have migrated all the way up here. They hang out at dumps and lakes and Walmart parking lots because workers taking their lunch breaks throw them French fries and bread scraps. My car got decorated all over by them once while I was shopping at a Sam’s store in the next city. Not a fan of seagulls at all.

@cherokeepatti I live next to the sea, but in the centre of the country there are just like in your area, plenty of seagulls living off rubbish dumps and scavenging generally around the area. When I was growing up, seagulls were definitely only associated with the seaside and were something very special for a child to see. Now I'm afraid I see them as pests that frighten off smaller birds. Another really annoying thing is that they wake me up in the morning in the summer with their screeching at 5 am.

Rant over 😄

@FreddieUK I believe they may have migrated up here due to trying to get away from hurricanes or tropical storms on the Texas coast. They breed like rats. I don’t remember seeing them when I was young around here. We have other birds that have migrated here since I was young, white cattle egrets (which are beneficial for ranchers because they pick ticks off of cattle), and grackles, which are a pest and have huge populations due to the cities and residents landscaping by planting Bradford pear trees all over.

Yup. They are greedy little guys, for sure. All our waterfront restaurants have signs on their outdoor eating areas NOT to feed them, as they will swoop right into the restaurant area to grab food.

@4meAndyou Same round by me, including signs in foreign languages for tourists.

@FreddieUK Our Marina boat landing is next to a large parking lot, and our locals hang out there in their cars to watch the water in the harbor and feed the pigeons and seagulls. I wish they would NOT.
