What is this? 馃槰

A friend of mine told me that when she goes to bed sometimes she feels like someone is hugging her tightly & heavily at night. Except that, she sleeps alone.

She also feels their breath on her face.

Now in our culture we have this belief of 丕賱噩賳 丕賱毓丕卮賯 which is more or less an incubus or succubus.

I dunno. Lolz

Pick your nonsense. No evidence for any of these.

@NativePortlander1970 The great thing about doing your own research is you can confirm any bias you start with.
@BlueSkyKing I search out actual experts in their field, the very ones you're now ridiculing.
BlueSkyKingM
@NativePortlander1970 Ridiculing? I don鈥檛 know whom the actual "experts" are and of any peer reviewed publications. Cite.

Since it is a phenomenon that manifests itself in so many cultures and even ancient civilizations. maybe it should be investigated.
Spica31-35, F
I agree 100% @icedsky

I just hope it's not literally what she describes. 馃槄
And I also hope she doesn't have any neurological disorder, like MS. Patients with MS describe something like MS hug which is a feeling of tightness around chest or stomach area.

She doesn鈥檛 complain of anything else thankfully. It鈥檚 just that she feels that weird presence at night. Also the breaths are what really stand out to her 馃槮 @CrazyMusicLover
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@Spica It's really weird. She doesn't have a dog, right? 馃槅
Spica31-35, F
No 馃樁@CrazyMusicLover

Sleep paralysis. Some people also feel the presence of an entity or someone pinning them down. In some cultures they call it the "old hag".
CrazyMusicLover31-35
@JimboSaturn There's also Batibat 馃槄
The Batibat is a vengeful demon found in Ilocano folklore. In Tagalog folklore, the creature is called Bangungot. The batibat takes the form of an ancient, grotesquely obese, tree-dwelling female spirit. They usually come in contact with humans when the trees in which they reside are felled and are made homeless, especially when their tree is made into a support post for a house. This causes them to migrate and inhabit what is left of their tree. The batibat forbids humans from sleeping near its post. When a person does sleep near it, the batibat transforms into its true form and attacks the person by suffocating their victim and invading their dream space, causing sleep paralysis and waking nightmares. This condition lends itself to the Ilocano word for nightmare, "bat铆bat" (or bangungot in Tagalog). To ward off the batibat, one should bite one's thumb or wiggle one's toes. In this way, the person will awaken from the nightmare induced by the batibat.
She says it feels more like a guy 馃槄 @JimboSaturn

Very interesting. Perhaps, the Jinn? Have a lovely day, Spica! 鈽猴笍馃尯
Spica31-35, F
Jinn is what we assumed, lol馃ゲ
but I also lean towards scientific explanations. Thank you, you too! 馃尭 @Oster1

Yeah in my culture it鈥檚 demons; she should probably call a priest or make a salt circle and wear a rosary/religious symbols
akindheart61-69, F
oh boy. that is scary. isn't an incubus or succubus sexual?
Spica31-35, F
More or less. The cultural belief here describes a lover of a supernatural demonic nature. It includes romantic and/or sexual aspects @akindheart
akindheart61-69, F
@Spica I don't want one...yikes
TeslinM
Is this comforting or disturbing for her ?
Spica31-35, F
It is disturbing but she also makes a joke of it @Teslin
TeslinM
@Spica Well, as long as the "hugger" does not get inappropriate with her LOL

fortheloveofmoney31-35, M
@Spica tell your friend she鈥檚 weird.
Spica31-35, F
It鈥檚 not her fault 馃槄@fortheloveofmoney
fortheloveofmoney31-35, M
@Spica yeah we鈥檒l just blame her hallucinations on a ghost 馃か
basilfawlty8931-35, M
Hmm...she doesn't have sleep apnea by chance?
Spica31-35, F
We discussed that. She鈥檚 convinced it鈥檚 not. She swears it literally feels like a person/lover. @basilfawlty89
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@Spica then I have no idea. I don't think there's something similar to that in "western" culture, but I could be wrong.
lumberjackslam41-45, M
I have experienced something similar called sleep paralysis. DM me for more info.
that鈥檚 low key hot..
Spica31-35, F
Death fairies like to do that to people I guess @deathfairy
