What is this? 😨

A friend of mine told me that when she goes to bed sometimes she feels like someone is hugging her tightly & heavily at night. Except that, she sleeps alone.

She also feels their breath on her face.

Now in our culture we have this belief of الجن العاشق which is more or less an incubus or succubus.

I dunno. Lolz
Pick your nonsense. No evidence for any of these.
@BlueSkyKing I search out actual experts in their field, the very ones you're now ridiculing.
@NativePortlander1970 Ridiculing? I don’t know whom the actual "experts" are and of any peer reviewed publications. Cite.
@jshm2 Atheism isn’t a belief, it’s the lack of belief.

That’s a good way to look at it @SomeMichGuy

Since it is a phenomenon that manifests itself in so many cultures and even ancient civilizations. maybe it should be investigated.
SW-User
I agree 100% @icedsky

I just hope it's not literally what she describes. 😅
And I also hope she doesn't have any neurological disorder, like MS. Patients with MS describe something like MS hug which is a feeling of tightness around chest or stomach area.
SW-User
She doesn’t complain of anything else thankfully. It’s just that she feels that weird presence at night. Also the breaths are what really stand out to her 😦 @CrazyMusicLover

@SW-User It's really weird. She doesn't have a dog, right? 😆

Sleep paralysis. Some people also feel the presence of an entity or someone pinning them down. In some cultures they call it the "old hag".
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@JimboSaturn There's also Batibat 😅

The Batibat is a vengeful demon found in Ilocano folklore. In Tagalog folklore, the creature is called Bangungot. The batibat takes the form of an ancient, grotesquely obese, tree-dwelling female spirit. They usually come in contact with humans when the trees in which they reside are felled and are made homeless, especially when their tree is made into a support post for a house. This causes them to migrate and inhabit what is left of their tree. The batibat forbids humans from sleeping near its post. When a person does sleep near it, the batibat transforms into its true form and attacks the person by suffocating their victim and invading their dream space, causing sleep paralysis and waking nightmares. This condition lends itself to the Ilocano word for nightmare, "batíbat" (or bangungot in Tagalog). To ward off the batibat, one should bite one's thumb or wiggle one's toes. In this way, the person will awaken from the nightmare induced by the batibat.

She says it feels more like a guy 😅 @JimboSaturn

@SW-User Yes sounds like she has a much more enjoyable version ;)

Very interesting. Perhaps, the Jinn? Have a lovely day, Spica! ☺️🌺
SW-User
Jinn is what we assumed, lol🥲
but I also lean towards scientific explanations. Thank you, you too! 🌸 @Oster1

I'd ask the Ngangkari to smoke the house out.

Good suggestion 🙂👌🏽@Thevy29

Is she comforted by the experience? Frightened?
SW-User
More like weirded out @Heartlander

Someone or a cam can monitor her if she is having a REM sleep or deep sleep at that time. That can help get to some more understanding of the issue. If she have REM sleep, it can be treated by different available option. It can be supernatural as doubted by you, if she suddenly wakes up by the experience from a deep sleep.

They say that Ghosts can even fancy you. Smh. Scary.

Yeah in my culture it’s demons; she should probably call a priest or make a salt circle and wear a rosary/religious symbols
akindheart · 61-69, F
oh boy. that is scary. isn't an incubus or succubus sexual?
SW-User
More or less. The cultural belief here describes a lover of a supernatural demonic nature. It includes romantic and/or sexual aspects @akindheart
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User I don't want one...yikes
Teslin · M
Is this comforting or disturbing for her ?
SW-User
It is disturbing but she also makes a joke of it @Teslin
Teslin · M
@SW-User Well, as long as the "hugger" does not get inappropriate with her LOL
Lostpoet · M
probably just panic attacks.
Jimbo7 · M
At least she knows she is loved

I have experienced something similar called sleep paralysis. DM me for more info.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Hmm...she doesn't have sleep apnea by chance?
SW-User
We discussed that. She’s convinced it’s not. She swears it literally feels like a person/lover. @basilfawlty89
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@SW-User then I have no idea. I don't think there's something similar to that in "western" culture, but I could be wrong.
that’s low key hot..
SW-User
Death fairies like to do that to people I guess @deathfairy
