But this one isn’t my ancestors…from an old church@SW-User
I have a Pet Cemetery in my backyard. Lots of dead pets are buried there.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
I have one in my backyard 🤣
It’s very haunted where I live. Just last week I saw a little boy run into my bed room and I thought it was my son
The police told me that they get calls a lot around my area for break-ins and then when they arrive there’s nobody there

Nope but I grew up in a town were one of the children's playground was built over a cemetery that even had mass graves from a cholera outbreak. Kids in the neighborhood called it "bone park" and a few even found human remains while playing.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow how interesting

I wouldn't even bring it up with my family. Our TV just randomly turns on at night, sometimes and can be heard very loudly some nights.
SW-User
@SW-User hahaha you must make funny scary faces seeing it
SW-User
@SW-User It's a mystery in the household. We thought the dog was just sitting on our TV remote at night or something like that, but we've left the remote up in hard to reach places. Not sure how else this is happening, but I'm sure there's an explanation for it 🤔
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
As far as I know its not allowed in the uk .
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Rhode57 I don't think it ever was, either; discounting private chapels on large estates, perhaps. And even there the graves would have been in consecrated church ground.
There seems nothing to say you can't scatter ashes in a private garden though.
On the other hand there are former churches, de-consecrated and converted into private homes. I don't know if the graves are still there in such places, now buried under the garden. Those closest to the building would be the oldest so the chances of there being any descendants of the "residents" now in the area are very small.
As for the OP's "ghost stories"... they are just that, stories! Not evidence for anything real and historical.

@ArishMell hey you haven't experienced them but others have

@SW-User Experienced, which? Domestic graves or "ghosts"?
Rhodes gave what he thinks is the British legal position on burials, and I agreed with him, but we can't speak for other countries in that regard. It would be very unusual though.
Regarding ghosts, you said "ghost stories" in a third-party sense. I don't deny people sometimes have eerie experiences, and I have had a few, but they have never made me believe in ghosts.
It does not mean such events must be supernatural simply by being alarming and inexplicable at the time, though their causes can be interesting and some are now understood. My examples were of two some of the most commonly-reported "ghostly" phenomena, occurring when in bed - a sudden feeling of falling (that of pressure is another), and innocent objects in the nearly-dark room appearing as malevolent figures; but we now know they are harmless little brain-storms called 'hypnagogic dreams'.
Besides, I don't know why there is this tradition of associating "ghosts" with cemeteries, even consecrated ones in which the deceased all had full, formal funerals !

I don't think it's allowed anywhere anymore. That must have stopped a long time ago.
UnderLockDown · M
I don't want to know.😆 That may not be a family cemetery... 😵
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I wish I had my own private cemetery; that would be cool.
chrisCA · M
We have numerous pets buried in our backyard.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
there are several family cemeteries around here
PhoenixPhail · M
You'll find them mostly in rural areas.
I think I would rather be buried in a small, private graveyard in one with a bunch of people I never knew. I'm not crazy about the idea of being embalmed, either. Just let me give back to the Earth the nourishment it gave me. No noxious chemicals.

I know Trump has one

It was never legal here
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
I heard bodies can move overtime underground so if you live even close to a cemetery chances are the bodies are under your house

I like the idea of having a family home passed down through generations and having us all buried on ig
