is anyone scared of leaving this world

[c=7700B2]like passing on and dying? as much as i'm christian and catholic and believe in an afterlife, i'm still scared of leaving this life, as shitty as this life gets, it's familiar, i know it, know my surroundings...on the otherside i don't know what may await.....plus, i'll probably die alone as my elderly parents won't survive me.[/c]

Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing your feelings.

Everyone is scared of leaving this world. The western (Christian) response to this fear is different from that of the east (Zen). Yours is that of the west. You are attached to this world, one you know. The afterlife is a matter of belief. There is no empirical proof that it exists.

My concern is not about what comes after my body dies, but how it dies. It's the experience of dying that I am scared of. More often than not, it's a tortuous death by a thousand cuts, slow and painful. It's an awful expensive process most people cannot afford. Add to the physical pain is the mental torture of going broke before the damn body checks out.

You are right. Life is shitty.

My favorite Richard Dawkins quote from my favorite book. Way before his best seller.

“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?”
― Richard Dawkins, Unweaving the Rainbow: Science, Delusion and the Appetite for Wonder

Try thinking and posting a little more positively.

@sree251 Your career and relationships? I'll end this here because I have said all I wanted to say, apart from no one will know for sure until they are dead if there is even an afterlife and I would rather live my life than be obsessed with death or worry about how I will die or where I might go afterwards. Life is short enough as it is and I don't intend to waste worry about death and all of it's consequences.

@Jemimapuddleduck You said: "Your career and relationships?"

Yes, all that are important to most people. I understand how you feel. Unless we find out what death is, we will never value life. This is why there is so much wars and human conflict. Even nuclear war doesn't scare you folks. Life is precious. You can't know its value till you find out why we are desecrating it without care.

@sree251 If mankind does not know what death is by now after centuries of conflict, we never will. Death means the end of life and don't assume I'm one of those who is not afraid of nuclear war. I know how precious life is. But if anyone wants to continually concern themselves with death and what happens after we die, they are missing out on living. Don’t bother to reply because I'm done .

I would advise you to get a Bible and read the New Testament at lest...

@sree251 You have no idea when you are going to be checked out of this life.. Which makes me more certian of the advise i gave you..

@Adstar There is no afterlife. When the body dies, I vanish, and that's it. Life goes on for you and others. So, there is only this life of the living, and it is an unholy mess that needs fixing. Pre-occupation with the afterlife, something that is non-existent is an excuse to ignore this world of the living. This is a cop out.

No that's not it.. Our Spirit never ceases to exist.. This life is just a temporary existence in a flesh vehicle to be experienced.. But our next existence is eternal.. We never cease to exist..

No there is an eternal life.. The only question is where one will be spending their next life.

If that where true then i would not even be bothered talking about it with you... One of the most vital things i do in my life is talk about this issue.. I am not coping out..

That's what happens to a man who hasn't found his Master.

@MAXIMUS555 Are you talking a man who believes he is a dog's best friend?

@sree251 you're barking at the wrong tree. Having a master helps. You might be perfectly intelligent but lack of faith won't cut the mustard.
