Why are religious people seen as stupid?

When you encounter a small fringe of militant atheists who believe that believing in a higher power is dumb and superstitious. They said religious people were backward and stupid because they believe in something that you can’t prove and doesn’t exist. Wow that’s a pretty rude statement to make. Militant atheists are just as overbearing as some religious evangelists who think it’s their job to try to save your soul whether you asked them to or not and forcing their beliefs on you. Yeah I have encountered all kinds… I know there are religious people who respect others beliefs and don’t try to cram their ideology down your throat and pressure you into thinking like them. Just because someone is religious it doesn’t mean they are lacking in critical thinking skills, education, or intelligence.
