If you believe in God you do not need Him to prove himself to you.. You simply know He is and accept His decision to intervene or to not intervene.. Why because you believe He is perfect and never makes mistakes,, So his will is always right..

One can believe God exists without any doubt and STILL need to TRUST ( have faith in God ) why because Gods will does not always align with our will.. Everyone who believes God Must trust Him because as you point out God does not always intervene even when we desperately want Him too..

It also makes me think of Byron Katie (author) and her stance on "belief. " She says our suffering is due to belief. "I'm" this, "I'm" not that, "she's this or that" etc...all bring suffering. (When you're a believer of anything). "When you say 'I', welcome to hell" she says.
I love her quote, "Nothing is true". Very interesting post, thanks.
"In our reasonings concerning matter of fact, there are all imaginable degrees of assurance, from the highest certainty to the lowest species of moral evidence. A wise man, therefore, proportions his belief to the evidence.”
― David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding

Spot on. Even if we don't want to accept it.
No expectations and no demands sets us free.
Belief in what, though? Some things are promised, but yes, you're right that people tend to presume a lot of things are promised that aren't, and are bewildered when they don't happen
