What so many people on SW get wrong about religion is that religions aren’t just a series of beliefs or hypotheses about how the world started and how it will end; to be fair, a lot of “fundamentalist”religious leaders don’t seem to get that either. Religions are about what you value most.
To be more specific, religion is transformation in response to a perceived ultimacy. As humans, we are constantly changing, right? Otherwise we’d be dead. So how are we changing? In response to our perceived ultimacies. Whatever we value most.
Not everyone is spiritual, but all are religious.
