I Struggle With My Body Image

Huge hair.
Big nose.
Huge calves.

Just not pretty. At all.

Even mom keep reminding me that. Because she was a petite pretty woman back then that she seemed to compare her look with mine. That even when someone said I’m pretty, she just kept saying that that’s bs.

Heard all that growing up, I ended up believing it.

I don’t know when it happened. But. Now I can accept how I look. When someone flaunt my flaws now, I just gonna leave that person in silent... 😌

I am unbelievably skinny, with big ears and slightly dark under eyes. Growing up I used to always, and I mean always wear jackets and slightly loose pants whenever I go out because I thought they would be able to hide my body. I purposely tried to ruin my eyesight (yikes) just to hide behind my glasses. My classmates and friends would tease me, even my parents would keep reminding me of my weight. I became incredibly insecure and would even refuse to go out sometimes when possible. But you know what I learned years later? It's that it doesn't matter. So what if you have flaws? Everyone does. Being ashamed of them isn't going to make them disappear. It'll only cause you to lose self-confidence and have people mock you even more. I was born like this, there are things about me that I can't change. And why should I? Why should you? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Even if you're not pretty in somebody's eyes, there will always be people who will accept you for all that you are. I am happy that you were able to overcome all of that. Btw, I think you're really pretty!
@Gelartsyyy I am proud of your positivity! And at young age! Wish I had that much sooner! Thank you for bringing out your story and you are beautiful 🌹

I'm sorry to hear this. I grew up constantly being reminded that I wasn't good enough, and didnt look good enough because I was always chubby. Its very scarring, and unfair. Its hard to forget those harsh words. I'm 43 and I still struggle daily with self acceptance. I have healed a lot over the years, but the scars still remain. I really like that you have been able to work through it. So positive...🤗
@Sunnykel76 hehe... I have to. We have to! Though I do agree that the scars shall remain. But. We shouldn’t, ever, let others make us down. They’re not worth our thoughts 🤗

Beautiful hair
Cute nose
Curves

Just plain lovely! ☺️

I’m sorry you’ve been told otherwise throughout your life. But those people were all either trying to bring you down or going by some ridiculous standard on what is considered beauty.

You’re gorgeous and you must never let anyone convince you otherwise again. 🤗
@Carver not easy, Carver. I seem to not taking any compliments full heartedly. But at least now I can say no to negativity. And... Thank you... 🤗

I think beauty is subjective in a person’s mind. To me, and I like to think I have a good eye for beauty, I see none of the flaws you point out... quite the opposite. You are quite beautiful. Thick dark hair, pretty face, toned body. Add your intelligence and big heart, you are a real prize to some lucky person.

I personally would not try to compare yourself to standards which no longer apply today. Each person brings something unique to the table. Embrace that which is you. *hugs*
@Livingwell that’s the word the use now “tone body”. But back then, I was just, fat 😅 But... Thank you. Agree on the unique 😊

@nothingnessssssssssssss I saw your picture of your legs by the pool. No way do you have big calves. They look very nice and proportionate. Women would kill for those.
@Livingwell haha... Maybe just because of the angle. But NO woman would wanted my legs 😅

Lol. When I was a kid and I wanted to go run errons with my mom and she'd say no you can't go and when I said, "why not?" She'd say, "because your nose is crooked and your ears are to big."

I always thought that was just some kind of funny saying like it's been a while crocodile but years later I came to realize that mom only said that to me and my nose is crooked and my ears are too big.🥺

Lol. Nobody can lower self-esteem quite like family.
@Lostpoet Sad right... 😢 But well, only ourselves can accept our lookalike. We’re the one living with it. Make the worth of it! 🤗

Of course you ended up believing it after all that, who wouldn't. That's just cruel. I'm sorry you had to go through all that, but am so glad you pulled through it. From what I've seen, you look lovely, but have to say from your posts, your spirit is amazing. Stay positive.
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@nothingnessssssssssssss You're very welcome. Honestly, you have toned legs, nothing to be ashamed of. :)

And of course, I sent this to the wrong post of yours. :) I should probably try to get some sleep now that it's after sunrise. lol
@MrPerditus1 ng... after sunrise is time to do activities 😅 But. Thank you 😊
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@nothingnessssssssssssss Again you're so welcome. My sleep patter isn't the best and I'm up all night, no matter what. I'll get a nap and then do things. :) Take care and be proud of who you are and you appearance. You seem like a lovely person both inside and out.
antonioio · 70-79, M
I have always said
You can have the most beautiful car in the world
But if it breaks down and keep breaking down
The nice looks will be quickly forgotten 😊
@antonioio I know. But at the moment, they’re the star and I was nothing. So yeah 😅 But I get what you mean and thank you... 😊
antonioio · 70-79, M
@nothingnessssssssssssss parents or teachers who put their kids down or did not encourage them always annoyed me
As a kid I rebelled against it and as an adult I have a thing about doing right by kids
I believe that every person has a gift and should be helped find it and I think you are about to 😊
@antonioio thank you 😊

DDonde · 31-35, M
You're pretty, and I hate hate hate it when mothers or parents tell their children that they're not pretty/handsome/whatever. Especially something like this where she was telling you that people were lying to you about it. Damn.
