I have done a lot of theater.

Actors have lots of superstitions.

One of them is that it is bad luck to wish someone good luck in connection with a performance.

So, "break a leg" has become the standard way to wish somebody well as they are about to go on .

🤕 i'm not well enough for this double entendre, lol wow...

I think thats the origin of that saying
