The advancement of technology will only lead to the extinction of all of humanity. Eventually we'll have a machine capable of fulfilling all of our needs and wants, this will lead to us becoming redundant and eventually we'll have no purpose in the world and we'll all die
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@Abstractminded Did you think humans would live forever?
Abstractminded · 41-45, M
@Steve42 nothing lasts for forever. But i think before we become extint we will colonize at least one or two other planets. Because as a species we multiply consume every resource in the area and move to the next area to repeat the process. I wouldn't be surprised if we became an overpopulated planet and consume more resources than we can create causing us to create colonies on the moon first, maybe eventually even mars. Nothing is impossible.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@Abstractminded Maybe our knowledge of ourselves will help us preserve the resources better on another planet.

It's like fire, can be a great servant or a terrible master.
Needs strict controls, which it won't get

Not sure yet. As with anything, our approach should be balanced and well informed. Baby steps.
Google ran an AI test linking several processors together. Given enough time, the AI began communicating with each other in an unprogrammed language, of their own design. Executing uncommanded decisions and actions.
The project was immediately shut down.

It's inevitable. It will evolve into the following branches (not necessarily in order of importance):
- Human labor - manufacturing - replacement
- Human labor - agriculture - replacement
- Human labor - transportation
- Hazardous duty (fire fighting, construction, exploration, space travel, etc.)
- Weapons, including robotic warfare
- Government control.
- Commercialization
- Medicine: preventive, intervention (minimally invasive and invasive and non-invasive)
- Sex
There is no stopping it

It’s not good. Will replace humans in most areas.

Think of our body as the world and our cells as technology. From the time we’re formed.. and as we grow, we add cells to our body. After one point we do not need any more, and an unnatural addition of those cells is what we call cancer.

I think it will become a problem. It’s all very well to talk about safeguards but sooner or later someone will make a mistake. No code is error free.

The last few percentage points to true AI will be difficult to achieve. I wouldn't rule it out, because of technological change.

It's already there.
Aside from removing the need for toilet paper, smart toilets add such quality of life that you'll never go back after using one. Heated seats, a warm air dryer, automatic flushing, hygienic filtered water, a night light, and adjustable options by remote control-what's not to love?

Making big strides with image generation right now. The DALL-E2 algorithm is very impressive

It's evolving. I'm not sure if that's a positive step, tho.

I don't think that it's going to be useful.
Human intelligence has produced enough shittiness already. Artificial shittiness is not to be welcomed.
