My brother's ring got hung up on something, tore the skin under it. They had to cut the ring off so it would not do further damage or cause infection.

If it's a gold/platinum ring, go to a jewelry store. They can cut it off, and reshape it (they soften it, and remold the base, it's just like new). While at it, they will widen it to your actual finger size. While you're waiting, get Neosporin, and get the cut cleaned and bandaged for a few days.

You can get it surgically removed, you have to take rings off periodically

Look up using dental floss on YouTube. I think they try that in the ER sometimes.
